Well my (sorry) comment was more about saying I believed someone instead of the news site that ran the forum I was commenting on. I guess much like if you posted on a Liverpool based site and said you believed Tranmere news over theirs. Nothing more meant than that - and believe me, I have no friendship with The Guardian.

I actually have no idea what you're saying here. Perhaps you could clarify? Is it about JTL?

No - I thought you werent sure why I had the '(sorry)' comment. It was more of a "hey I believe someone over CN" type sorry. Nothing else - are we clear now?

Back on track to my earlier post; JTL training with Sky since April 2012, Sky powermeter at the Worlds, Brailsford states the passport infraction is an Endura problem.

it's very much a jtl problem..............i'm sure team sky will be giving him support to get through this

in time it will be decided if jtl acted independantly...........i'm sure that decision won't be based upon him using a team sky powermeter

I'm sure he's been receiving a salary during the saga. He'll be on his own once he goes down.

Although I'm sure he's holding the powermeter ransom.

Time to stop this before it get's out of hand even more. Move on guys, I'd say the was JTL leader question was solved pages ago with article links various people posted. And Hog, you've made your point about JTL, the worlds, and his powermeter. No need to continue to re-state it over and over again.

Last warning guys.

It was? I have yet to see anything to support this claim.

Brailsford selected JTL to lead the worlds in April 2012

The discussion was not about how JTL, to his surprise, got a couple riders assigned to him 48 hours before the race but the invented claim that Brailsford named him as team leader for the Worlds 6 months before the race.

Ellingworth feels that as well as giving future prospects such as Rowe, Stannard, Swift and Tiernan-Locke experience it could also suit Wiggins or Froome if either of the Tour stars feels it could be his day

So Wiggins and Froome leaders, others there partly for experience

Scholar posted
Tiernan-Locke rocketed from relative obscurity in February of this year with a series of stunning early-season performances, including victory at the Tour Méditterranéen and the Tour du Haut Var. Even at that early stage, and even though he plies his trade at Continental level with Endura Racing, Tiernan-Locke was already being touted as a potential leader for the Valkenburg Worlds.

“I wouldn’t have thought I’d have been here, even this year,” Tiernan-Locke on the eve of the race. “I’ve had some good results and this is another step up again. The team’s taken a leap of faith in me because I’m a bit unproven but I wouldn’t have said I’d have been here a year ago, no way.”

After riding to overall victory at the Tour of Britain last week, the punchy climber rubber-stamped his selection for the national team and, it seems, guaranteed himself the role of leader. Bradley Wiggins – who may yet have Tiernan-Locke as a trade teammate at Sky next season – endorsed the 27-year-old’s status within the squad.

“Everyone’s saying he can win the race, we all think he can win the race so we’re doing as much as possible to help him win the race,” Wiggins said, before joking: “So there’s no pressure on him at all.”

So he was talked up by others as a potential leader, or perhaps back up plan would be a better choice of words if others failed. So he most likely was not the definite leader that everyone would work for, but he had a bit a free-er role then others.

From the articles JTL doesn't seem to have been made leader in April, but been selected to ride the worlds in April. So guys like Wiggins and Froome were the main leaders, and there was talk that JTL could do well at the worlds by others. So he probably wasn't given the full leadership status but given more of a free role to ride his own race and take his own chances. And at the day of the race, eventually JTL was the only one left in the front group that had a chance iirc.

To be honest, seems a pretty redundant conversation to me, as UK didn't really do that much in the race.

Yes, that interview was done 2 weeks prior to the race. It quickly became clear that neither of them were in form. They would not even ride the TT.

A couple days before the race they approached JTL

I didn’t go into the World Championships as outright leader,” he says. “I only found out I was going to have people helping me with about 48 hours to go before the race.
.

http://roadcyclinguk.com/racing/jon...m-sky-interview-2202.html#6hgQoL5CZTz3Pe5f.99

So he found out 2 days prior to the race, not 6 months prior like was claimed

Good that we have that settled

It's fairly clear through his manger Smith that Brailsford wanted him for WC leadership as Wiggins & Froome would be tired.

From March in. 2012:

Interest in JTL faded once the WorldTour teams realised he was 27 years old and nobody was willing to take a chance based on a Tour of Britain performance. However interest in Locke has gone through the roof again since his recent 2012 wins and it looks as though signing for a WorldTour team next year will simply be a formality, with rumours that Dave Brailsford has even tapped him on the shoulder for a possible World Championships call up.

And again in April when JTL trained with Sky (posted earlier)

Not only is there ongoing speculation as to just where JTL will be riding next year, but rumours are also abound that he may feature in this years World Championships team at the request of Dave Brailsford, though Brian Smith says that any decision on the World's team will likely be looked at after the Olympics.

My thanks to Brian Smith for sharing with me and providing honest, forthcoming and clear responses to all of my questions.

And confirmed that Brailsford chose him and not Ellingsworth that has been incorrectly stated:

Being picked as British Team leader for the World Championships shows that there is faith in his ability - after all he had never even raced this distance before and in the end he showed well. Brailsford was his boss then and he will be his boss next year, so that's a good start

Thanks for the clarity Hog :)

No, it's fairly clear that Brailsford wanted him for the WC team from the spring.

Given that this is enough to support the point you made (that JTL was effectively riding with Sky, and that they're trying to pass it off (and apparently succeeding) as Endura's problem), it's not clear to me either why you keep insisting that he was chosen as leader from the spring, or why others keep arguing so strongly against that point as if it's of importance to the point being made.

Thank-you.

My point was very clear. That JTL was well entrenched in Sky from March/April 2012 whilst he was still at Endura.

Brialsfords subsequent statement that the alleged doping infraction occurred prior to Sky is just playing with words and not reality.

Fairly clear and the reason I brought up the powermeter.

This is a discussion forum. I agree with you that others are trying to point score and not actually discuss, which is disappointing.

But what can you do? JTL is the topic so will stick to that subject.

Cheers.

Mmmm here's another Team Sky rider from the same team same year

Nice try.

See those goalposts move.

JTL was training with Sky in Tenerife in April/May 2012, and Sky apparently had full access to him from then onwards.

Doesn't make Hog's posting of the Sky-sponsored British jersey any less silly.

Correct and again I'm not presenting an argument. Just information that JTL was entrenched at Sky.

A Garmin rider would not be as they would already have a ProTour contract. JTL did not.

He was in effect a ProTour rider training with Sky in preparation for his contract in 2013 whilst racing with Endura.

Teams have to respect their contractual obligations. But nothing stops JTL from training (and doping) with Sky from March till the Worlds.

His comeback after his broken collarbone was nothing short of badzhilla like.

Glad that we've got that sorted.

He was under contract solely to Endura, racing solely for Endura and national team and wearing solely Endura and national kit.

Any doping that occurred was in these parameters.

That's true, but to be fair it was (a) quite amusing and (b) a response to the equally silly (if not more so) red herring that JTL hadn't raced in Sky kit.

I think when it comes to doping. And using Ferrari and Fuentes as examples; there were several riders doping from different teams.

The fact that JTL rode for Endura and was training in Tenerife with Sky is a massive red flag.

Considering Brailsford signed him off the back of those training sessions and tests and for JTL to later have blood anomalies is of great concern.

They weren't Endura training camps. Endura could barely afford the kit on JTL's back!

If doping has occurred I'd look towards Sky and Brailsford.

But if its doping its failed doping.

That is the key point that you haven't understood.

Sky don't do failed doping.
