Juan Ayuso discussion thread

JV had to abandon because he took banned meds for his sting (or maybe abandoned so that he could take the meds).
Many people don't react well to low dosage antihistamines, his eye was near swollen closed, and his leg stiches keep coming open, off pace, leg hurts and the solution to be able to see is taking a medication that makes majority of people super sleepy!!
Abandon is better for him, for the team, one less mouth to feed, get bottles for.. And because of who he is, where he fits in the team, they are going to have a car supporting him..he did the right thing. Ayuso had a series of unfortunate events, Internet might think it's the end of the world, doubt he does

Why are you so obsessed with Pog? You seem to have a problem about him and other posters more than anything else here.

We are only talking about Ayuso in here and his actions. You are trying to make it about something else and going at other posters for absolutely no reason.

Ayuso let his team and teammates down in the Tour last year. They were visibly frustrated with him in Almeida case. Objectively this is what transpired.

Ayuso is a young and very talented rider. Of course he will get more opportunities to redeem himself. His ceiling is still high and he has currently a few years left on his contract with the team, unless something happens. Unless they have a big fallout... he will continue with them and they will work on things.

Did they know Pogacar didn't participate in the Giro?

He's not responsible for what happens to Ayuso in the races he's not in.

As I said before, rather than supporting Ayuso, many people use him as a weapon againts Pogacar. That's the saddest thing; it's not even a real suppor for Ayuso; he's being used to attack other rider.

Pogacar's problem is being a good cyclist and having beaten other fans' favorites.
Ayuso's situation is a new way of attacking him.

No former teammate criticizes him as a teammate; everyone has spoken highly of him. Even Hirschi, who wanted his space, spoke good of him as a teammate when he left the team.
It makes no sense to continue involving Pogacar in Ayuso's problems with the team. Pogacar is not responsible for Ayuso's situation.

And he's not responsible for Ayuso's schedule either. Pogacar is the best cyclist in the world. If Ayuso doesn't want to be his domestique, he knows he won't be the leader in races where someone better than him is competing in the same team. That would happen on any team.

But LR (Visma workers) and some fans say that's why Pogacar is hurting him. Pogacar doesn´t ban him; Ayuso went to the 2024 Tour, Canada,.. Pogacar isn't responsible for Ayuso having a contract with his team and not being able to lead the Tour because Ayuso isn't the best on that team.
What should he do, give up his place?

In FW thread, I read a comment on the forum calling Pogacar selfish because he wanted to win and wouldn't let Christen do it.
Is Remco going to be domestique for Landa in Lieje? Anyone who wants to share a team with those riders knows what to expect.
Ayuso's problem is that, being on the same team as someone who is superior to him, but that is not Pogacar's fault.

They don't know what to criticize anymore.
Now they've seized on Ayuso's situation to vent their frustration at Pogacar. It's so obvious they're doing it for that reason that it's absurd.
They don't care about Ayuso, he's their new weapon against Pogacar, it's so obvious that LR is using him for that reason that it's ethically questionable since they have interests with Visma.

find it slightly funny that Pog's fans get so salty over Ayuso not dying out there for Pog when they're also constantly boasting 24/7 about how Pog is the GOAT.
You see this back in everything, where the enemy is simultaneously incredibly weak and incredibly strong, the Dear Leader is absolutely perfect and immune but also poor guy completely victimized, or "we are the majority but we are victimized" bs.

Ayuso has no "situation" with UAE. Not as far as we're aware of. Gianetti & co in fact seem to love the guy. I have no skin in the game. I don't care. But the absolute only reason Ayuso is even seen as an 'issue' is because of events surrounding his role supporting Pog in the TdF and everything that happened there.

I mean you and some others keep on accusing all and sundry of having an Pog-hate obsession but seriously, who are you kidding? No one else other than Pog (& apparently to a lesser degree Almeida) fans have an issue with Ayuso.

It's like the pot calling the kettle black here.

We have an answer and I was right. Selfish rider.

I totally understand that, as a Pogacar fan, you mistrust/dislike Ayuso for apparent dereliction of duty in the 2024 TdF.

But explain how his abandon today was selfishness? With what I assume is considerable discomfort, limited field of vision and depth perception, he would have been a menace in a peloton, and should not have been allowed to start.

What was selfish in his DNF today?

Time stamp where they talk about Ayuso. Broe doing a 180 turn. Now according to Broe Almeida is the selfish rider.

Broe started talking about Ayuso as selfish 2022. Be it taking a piss or not he definitely didn't help Ayuso reputation. And now instead turn against another.

J'accuse LRCP they were so part of drumming up that Ayuso is selfish hype. (So was I but thankfully I have no platform)

This is even more predictable than Pogacar winning the Tour by 5 minutes+ last year.

Guys do I remember correctly that Almeida didn't pull for Pogi on Isola 2000 and that it was all Yates?
Almeida was next in line behind Adam to pull in front of Pogacar. Almeida started to struggle and Pogacar attacked. Almeida didn’t hide in the back of the group, he was at the front.

Almeida didn't pull on PdB as well.
He dropped himself early, so he can pace himself up the mountain and keep his GC place.
Jorgenson and Vingegaard were doing all of the work on PdB for Pogacar. Opposite Galibier where the team was trying to set up a high pace for Pogacar to attack but Ayuso was riding in the back of the group.

Okay Ayuso ruined all my good will for him by talking about going viral before doing something.
TBF it did go viral. :D

I'm with you on the "before doing something" comment WRT Ayuso generally. One example (there are many) is Bruyneel referring to him as a "Champion", which surprises me. He's not won anything significant enough (yet) to warrant that.

Gotta keep myself from letting a rider's fans, team managers, or media from influencing my opinion of said rider...really isn't easy...

I don't know why Bruyneel has consistently sided with the way Ayuso is managed. He knows how critical a role Juan could play right now in a win for Del Toro

I think that's a revisionism of what really happened.

As soon as the final climb started (PdB, 15,8km to go), Visma sent Jorgenson pacing upfront. It was a crazy pace and blew up what was left of the peloton.
At 12km to go Almeida and Ciccone dropped (Ciccone is no slouch).
Who's left at that point: Jorgenson, Vingegaard, Pog, Yates, Remco, Landa, Carlos Rodriguez and Buitrago.

At 11km to go, Buitrago and Rodriguez drop.
At 10,5km Jorgenson starts the lead out for Vingegaard's attack. Vinge attacks and only Pog reacts. Everybody else is dropped.
At 5,5km to go Pog attacks and goes solo for the win.

At the end of the day, Jorgenson's pace was simply too much for everyone other than the 2 mutants and Remco. I don't believe anybody else (including Almeida, Yates or Landa) could have done anything more than they did.

ps: according to Watts2Win, this climb was the career personal best climb for Pog, Vingegaard, Remco, Carlos Rodriguez and Buitrago.
And 2nd best for Landa, 3rd for Yates and 5th for Almeida.

That was a crazy crazy hard pace.

Nah. I like him now because he failed to win his big objective. Not only that, but some really messed up stuff happened to him along the way, with a nasty knee injury and then a malevolent bee with harmful intent turning him into One Eye-uso and sending him towards a DNF.

For those reasons alone, he has my good will. I always cheer for the guys who have it rough out there.

He wanted Ayuso to stay and take a few pulls for Del Toro to get other peoples good will. Just like Broe suggested.

So they wanted him to stay despite that injury. Just like Brunyel in the past also (among with Horner) said Roglic should've stayed in the tour 2023 as a domestique for Jonas.

He's quite consistent.

^ this is so very true. To be clear: you see this in all the threads, Be it Pog, Rog, Vingo or Remco.
And frankly, it's exhausting to read.
Used to be a time when you were a fan of someone, it was also possible to accept criticism from others. But whatever, I already feel like the old man yelling at clouds.
