It follows my post.

Botanybay can be the recipient of an obscene gesture from Teamskyfan.

Teamskyfan can't handle civil discourse.

What do you think it meant?

hacks, as in to hack, or hacking

Also, the gesture, not too bad. But it does appear to be a bad photoshop

I might very well be a classless Yank, but I never leveled a profane word or gesture against any individual here (JV included).

Wondering what the going rate for an obscene gesture is in NASCAR these days? That'd be $25,000 for the middle finger.

Still, I would like to know what did you mean by "to hack", because I really don't understand what you just wrote

Ah thanks Botany. I did not know that definition of the word hack

No problem. It's generally used to describe quitters or those resistant to quitting. One can either "hack it" or they can't. It predates computers (and perhaps two World Wars).

Funny how we tend to assume (myself included) that our language is universal. No wonder I can't always follow "Inspector Lewis (or Morse)" on the telly.

Who did ever think it was a good idea to change the name of Inspector Morse? That really is one of the stupidest things I heard today:p

It, in and of itself, is not an obscene gesture. It is a picture of a baby who happened to have his middle finger extended while his others were not.

I doubt such wise guy stuff will cut it in your chosen profession.

Also it is understood, by the context in which it WAS used to be an obscene gesture.

I'll forgive the ostriches for not seeing it.

Lame...

So Barrus, how about it?

With your vast experience you gonna let the obscene gesture by the guy who couldn't hack it, stand?

We only see it on Public Television, and they never give us any cultural context (IE, is this actually a popular show in GB?). It took me a while to realize that Lewis was Morse's protegé (they are shown back-to-back on Sunday nights). It's fun to watch, as eventually you see each adult actor/actress from "Harry Potter" make an appearance.

Please tell me that it is situated in what you consider to be a "sleepy" town. These characters lead lives that are far from exciting. Every so often a bad-*** car chase would liven it up. Or perhaps draw a pistol now and then. Do all murder suspects allow themselves to be arrested so quietly? ;)

What is the point of these JV threads? A thread to call him spineless, which was refuted. A thread to say "look at me, a DS wrote to me". Another thread, mercifully deleted, to say "please oh please write to me too", and what have we accomplished? Does anyone really think that someone who wants to effect real change is going to use this forum as a soapbox? Is JV going to respond to a person who hides behind a pseudonym yet says "man up"? We've said on many occasions that this place would benefit from having a cyclist/DS etc join the forum, but who is going to come to get sniped at by nitwits? No wonder lions kill hyenas, the constant yapping and nipping gets to you after a while.

No, I think you are more intelligent than that. You've spent enough time in The Clinic and in these JV threads to know what I'm writing about.

so Barrus, where do you stand on the obscene gesture?

I have as a goodwill gesture removed the offending article. However, I will point out, it was very clearly not aimed at an individual member but instead the thread, Nobody was quoted within the post, nobody was mentioned within the post, and it clearly said "this thread sucks" which some may agree with me, it does. It started well enough, but like many it seems went quickly downhill.

Well im glad you know, I have no idea what he was talking about. And as stated, there is nothing to give any suggestion that the picture was aimed at him. Again, it was aimed at THIS THREAD.
Now for the second time, im outta this one.

good grief, who cares?

The point is that CN is offended by me bringing up real world examples that show people standing up against entrenched powers but they have no problem letting the picture of a baby making an obscene gesture remaining on these forums.

I'm all for letting this thing be a free for all. Who cares? Seriously?

Not I...

There are a few people in the cycling world who can go a long way towards clearing up these issues by speaking truthfully on the matters in the clinic.

It's very simple.

It'll never be enough. They can be telling the truth, and there are people who will not believe it.

You can be satisfied JV is doing his best, or not. That's not really his problem.

Your example of the lions killing the hyenas illustrates nothing as does the rest of your post.

http://www.amazon.com/National-Geographic-Video-Eternal-Enemies/dp/6304474636

Although we romanticize lions as mighty kings of the jungle, their reign is in fact a tenuous one. It is challenged daily in southern Africa by vicious packs of hyenas that compete for prey. Between the two species exists an ancient feud, and it unfolds in Eternal Enemies with all the drama of the warring Capulets and Montagues. Watch as lions bring down a zebra, only to be attacked themselves by a pack of hyenas that chases them into the trees. Glowering, the big cats watch as the thieves devour their dinner. Days later the lions exact revenge, killing the hyena leader but leaving her uneaten as a warning to the rest of the clan. Other scenes in this video are equally impressive, including life inside a hyena den--which captures the sounds of lions growling outside--and a tense encounter between a snake-bitten lioness and a pack of hyenas. With its gripping story line, Eternal Enemies is a standout among animal documentaries. --Demian McLean

Why don't you ask JV what is the point? I sent him a PM asking for Walsh's, Kimmage's, and Howman's contact info which I'm waiting on.

You think the JV thread was refuted?

The other thread where JV responded, this one, is to inform YOU of what is going on.

As for hiding, JV has my contact info and my phone number. I'm just a fan, but I'm not hiding.

JV was here, the defenders of the glacial pace of change or the recurrance of the cancer defended him and mocked me, and now here we are (me and a few others anyway) trying to discern where procycliing is.

Aside from the very little you offered, anything else?

Goodbye, I'll watch for the sniping from the peanut gallery.

Yeah, it kind of is because he has people believing the sport is not genuine and we have a representation of those people here.

He's the one selling something. Maybe the powers think they have the dissent under control.. I don't know...

Unless he's doing everything he can do, he's not doing enough to quell the clinics and the cynics who have good reason to doubt him.

In fairness to him, with the GJ going on now, it might be best to remain quiet.

What's a fair length of time to give JV on truth and reconciliation?

The 2011 Tour. The beginning of the season?

As I've said, I'm not selling anything.

Well I am certainly not in any of the groups that you mention within the highlighted paragraph. Yet I do not see what you are trying to do.

I have asked yourself (& BotanyBay) what you expect to happen?
So, JV admits to doping - we already know that. Says USPS doped, we already know that.

Of course now PMcQ says JV is crazy, hurting the sport, LA says he has gone mad, drinking too much wine, Phil&Paul say its a sad day for cycling etc.

JV is an owner of a team - that he decided was going to try and do it clean - that is all, anything else is stuff added on that he is not representing.
His only obligation is to his team, which is his riders & his emplyees.

after catching up with the tread, i came to a conclusion that bucky's posts are pure demagoguery...this chap needs to be ignored for a while at least

the chest-thumping activity after jv has boosted his emptiness has apparently propagated upwards.
