But it's better than living a lie.

We cycling fans always wanted to support Floyd Landis. We just needed to hear the truth so we could know HOW to support him. Now we have it. It's up to us to defend Landis against the inevitable omerta backlash.

As for his own positive test, Landis still maintains that result was inaccurate and that he had not used synthetic testosterone during the 2006 season -- although he now admits he used human growth hormone during that time. At this point, he does not want to dwell on any of the issues he and his lawyers hammered at during his case, he said.

"There must be some other explanation, whether it was done wrong or I don't know what," he said. "You can try to write it however you want -- the problem I have with even bothering to argue it is [that] I have used testosterone in the past and I have used it in other Tours, and it's going to sound kind of foolish to say I didn't."

Landis exhausted most of his own savings in fighting his case, which cost an estimated $2 million, and also raised funds for his defense in a well-publicized effort. He said he would pay those donors back if he could, but does not have the money to do so. He said he did not level with the people close to him, but declined to say whether he informed his lawyers of his past drug use.

Armstrong doesn't have that many legal options, he doesn't want to end up in a civil case discussing whether or not he doped.

IMO Evans would be doing recovery therapy at a minimum. No riders of his age, 33 or 34, made breakthroughs in the era before O2 vector techniques. They were retiring then. Now you have Voigt, Horner, Leipheimer, StrongArm, Konychev, Dierkxsens, etc hitting their straps in their mid to late 30's. Not credible.

I don't see why he doesn't come out and admit to it, Bjarne Riis style. Afterall, that was the past, and "doping is very individual now".

who is going to impartialy investigate the UCI and the allegations that Lance flew to say hi and bring cash to your superior Hein when he was President of the UCI?

In fact your press release doesn't mention anything about it or the positive EPO test.

Sure, I go sleep (sleep -pah...) and look what happens in the morning....Interesting that the majority of the early comments on the NYTimes story about this are not the usual mainstream American "Floyd's a liar/Armstrong's a saint" or "they're all on steroids (sic)" variety: more about, in line with this forum, 'finally' and the need to bring this out. With Bonnie Ford from espn (who is very good) and Janet Macur from the NYT running with this, it will not go away in the bigger world - you know LA is doing a hard-core offensive briefing with multiple PR firms right now: he's already planning his redemption strategy - "get Oprah on the phone - stat!".

Just brings up what I said to someone three years ago on the DP forums: "don't have heroes" - you'll get screwed...

I read this story this morning and got really excited that the Armstrong empire might finally get taken down. Then I went a did a bit of fact checking.

Armstrong wasn't in the 2002 Tour de Suisse, and it was the 2001 edition he won.

If I read it correctly, I think he is relating a story Lance told him in 2002. The incident would have occurred, as you correctly noted, in 2001.
