There are some 'real cols' in Norway:

Dale_Tuddal_Dale_profile.jpg

Dalsnibba_Geiranger_profile.jpg

- the last 7km is on dirt roads, but it's plenty decent enough without that final 7km

Eldegardsnosi_Oevre_Ardal_profile.jpg

Juvasshytta_Galdesanden_profile.jpg

There's also Finnsetlia - no profile, but 7,7km @ 9,6%.

The problem is, most of these are pretty isolated, though the first one there is certainly reachable from Drammen, Kongsberg or Tønsberg.

The problem is staying close to urban centres at first, hence why I suggested a climb like Tryvann.

I think it would be possible with a MTF finish on topp of Juvasshytta. I think it's a hotel at the top with a parking lot and there are about 100-150km to Lillehammer so at least it should be possible. if they have money and desire, they can do a really tough one week course.

I think they have the desire, and possibly the money (organisation has been very slick and I've been impressed) - but I think they may want to try out slowly increasing the difficulty rather than go straight to a Juvasshytta MTF as then it would become a Langkawi-like win-the-climb, win-the-race kind of stage race, unless they also include a time trial. The Tryvann/Holmenkollen loop doesn't make it that certain, plus may make attacks more frequent on the smaller climbs.

Certainly I think given time they can possibly use Juvasshytta some time in the future, but for the time being they should consolidate and build slowly and organically and make the race progressively more difficult rather than go for the jugular, which may discourage some teams from participation.

Yes i fully agree that they should take things slowly.

But my dream for the future would be a one week stage race that looks something like this with a high quality field:

1. Sarpsborg/Fredrikstad-Lilleström
2. Lilleström-Hamar
3. Lillehammer-Jyvashyttan MTF
4. Lillehammer-Honefoss
5. Drammen ITT
6. Drammen-Norefjell MTF
7. Vikersund-Oslo (Holmenkollen)

A finish in Oslo would be great. They could make a loop containing Holmenkollveien-Voksenkillveien (4-5 km @ 5-6% or 3km@ 6-7% x 2-3 times) and then down to a finish in the city or they could have the finish at Holmenkollen.

They could definitely make on off the best one week stage races in the calender and definitely one off the most beautiful

Yeah but still a nice ride.

Doesn't help if the guy that came fourth is only 19 years old...

The guy who came 4th just won Tour de Korea so not the slowest one in the field. It's not like the other guys are any younger.

Markus Eichler (Team NSP) wins the prologue of Flèche du Sud. The prestigious race for U23 and non-professional riders was won by A. Zülle, K. Kirchen, B. Wiggins, A. Schleck and G. Thomas among others. Last year Taylor Phinney won the prologue. Junior ITT world champion Bob Jungels clocked 9th and Dale Parker of Trek-Livestrong is the best junior rider.

Noteworthy participants this year are the Fothen brothers, Jonas Ljungblad, Clément Lhotellerie and last year's winner Lasse Bochman.

I am indeed. The Volta ao Alentejo is a pretty flat race. There are sometimes some small climbs to break things up, and some twisty, technical run-ins to favour attackers. I'd say it's not too dissimilar a race to, say, Dunkerque, though sometimes they will use some pretty good short, sharp climbs (a bit like their neighbour the Volta ao Algarve). Bruno's a decent sprinter in the Portuguese scene.

It's being tweeted that Bruno Sancho won the second stage, going one better, but no further information. Either way, it's good for me, since LA-Antarte-Rota dos Móveis are my favourite team in Portugal.

This used to be a bigger race than it is, and it used to be in April; money concerns with the Liberty Seguros/LA-MSS/Benfica pullouts moved it to June last year and dropped it from .1 to .2 status.

Former winners include David Blanco (2010), Maxime Bouet (2009), Xavier Tondó (2005), Laszlo Bodrogi (2001), Chechu Rubiera (1999) and Miguel Indurain (1996).

This should also please you Libertine:

Laurent Beuret (CH/Atlas Personal) wins stage 1 and takes over the GC lead from Markus Eichler (D/NSP) in the Flèche du Sud. After 50 km Beuret had formed a breakaway with Nico Schneider (D/Differdange), Niki Ostergaard (DK/Glud&Marstrand-LRO Radgivning) and Nicolaj Olesen (DK/Energi Fyn), building a lead up to 5 minutes.

It appears he only rescued a lead of a couple of seconds in front of the field though.

Kittel for the overall there.
Or Matthews, Bos, or anyone really, if the weather stays like this (rain, wind).

Coen Vermeltfoort broke both his wrists when he fell off the start ramp. Talk about bad luck.

Not even Soler, Frank Schleck, or CVV do that!

Another one of Libertine's all-time favourites (I assume) at the finish of yesterday's Fléche du Sud stage in Rümelingen:

Sancho now leader, I believe.

Disappointed in Fábio Silvestre's performances - he was podiuming stages last year - but Rafael Reis continues to impress.

Do you know Sancho won (ie late attack)? Eitherr way to hold the a charging peloton off by two seconds is a goof effort. Is Sancho a noted Chrono rider?

A lot of 20-year-olds (and younger) in the top-20 there. A bit surprised to see Sinkeldam 5th in a bunch sprint.

Sancho held off the bunch from a late attack. He isn't noted for his Chrono, can't really find anything on it to be honest, most ITTs he's entered he's been looking to survive (eg at end of the Volta) or way out of contention so I'm not sure.
