So if I read correctly , he had an advantage of 23 seconds over Aru on the top of Piccolo San Bernardo and extended that lead to 2:32 on the descent. And Lupetto says he crashed there too. That's impressive even at this level.

Yes. In nearly every race he did this year, it seems. As a consequence he seems to have some kind of permanent back injury, which has been bothering him all season.

He started this season in style, BTW: by breaking his collar bone in the very first race.
