Van Staeyen wins Memorial van Steenbergen in a very impressive way
had to stop pedalling twice in the last 250 meters or so and still kicked mcewen *** :D
now that's a sprinter with promise (more than keukeleire imo.)

Yeah McEwen was seriously blocking Van Staeyen and most sprinters would have given up or not win because of that.

For ex-Gerolsteiner Kopp this was a very special day, it's his first race after being suspended twice for the same thing, namely the use of cocaine, found after a controle at the kermisse in Izegem Belgium on September 11, 2008 - was at first banned till January this year, started racing again in march and got on advise of WADA another ban till September 10. By: Cycling NewsPublished: April 22, 11:48, Updated: April 22, 12:16

Cocaine-related suspension to run through September 2010

The Flemish cycling federation had first suspended him until December 31, 2009, after which he signed a contract for the 2010 season with the German Continental Team Kuota-Indeland. The Flemish federation later extended its ban. The UCI has now adopted the suspension, which applies worldwide. UCI spokesman Enrico Carpani confirmed to Cyclingnews

Opening stages of Tour of Tasmania 'unbelievably tough'

17 Sep, 2010 12:00 AM
PART-TIME cyclist Rhys Pollock displayed his liking for brutal conditions by claiming the lead of the Caterpillar Underground Mining Tour of Tasmania after the gruelling opening two stages yesterday.
The 127-man field was pummelled by wind, rain, hail and snow in the 42km Strahan criterium and 89km road stage from Strahan to Rosebery.

Veteran cycling observers described the conditions as the worst ever experienced in the 15-year history of the Scody Cup - the four-part, three- state domestic cycling series, of which the Tassie Tour is the fourth and final round this year.

Pollock, 30, who attracted attention with a gutsy second placing behind Tasmanian Bernard Sulzberger in last year's Launceston to New Norfolk Classic, mixes cycling with a building administration university course in his home town of Albury, NSW.

Pollock finished 47th in the morning criterium to Launceston's Ben Grenda, before winning the Strahan-Rosebery stage after a breakaway with Sydney's Chris Jory, who finished second and picked up the king of the mountain jersey.

Reigning Victorian open road champion Cameron Peterson launched a solo attack and took third placing, only 12 seconds behind the leaders.

"That was unbelievably tough," the jubilant Pollock said after he unleashed a victory screech upon conquering Jory in the uphill finish in Rosebery's main street.

Earlier, Grenda sprinted brilliantly to win at Strahan after he and Genesys team-mate Dylan Newell reeled in breakaway riders New Zealander Gordon McCauley (Total Rush Hyster) and West Australian Anthony Giacoppo (Plan B).

During stage two, Grenda punctured 6km from Rosebery and saw his chance at the Tour lead disappear, but he earned the Tas Gas leading rider award and the Country Club Tasmania criterium jersey.

The Tour continues today with a 4.8km time trial at Queenstown, followed by an 86km road stage from Queenstown to Zeehan.

Website: http://www.caribou.net.au/tour_of_tasmania.html

Triple world track champion Cameron Myer won the Tassie tour in 2007 and Tasmania’s own Richie Porte, a star of this year’s Tour of Italy, triumphed in 2008.
