He wasn't far behind VDP and Wout last year. I don't think this victory changes anything in that regard. Awesome victory nonetheless!

Maybe not in the 260 km races (actually, I do think he was quite far behind Mathieu there) but in small races like this, I don't recall him ever having put in a performance anything near what he did today. You have to be really confident to ride like he did, it was like seeing Sagan toy with GVA and Gilbert in BP13 (those names were admittedly more fearsome than Mads' adversaries today).

For Rwanda, It looks like people as Restrepo, Pierre Latour and Kudus (this for sure) will be at the starts, so it is expected a good final podium for a race on Africa. Young people as Willian Junior Lecerf, second last year, talented UAE Glivar, and the veterans Julian Simon and Chris Froome are other important names at the start. But anyway most of the starlist is still unknow 6 days before the race.

The race has shorter stages compared with last year, maybe less hard, but it has 2 TT, one opening TTT, quite hard, and a 14 Km ITT almost climbing at about 4 %, so very different kind of riders can win the race.

For the country the race is an important test fot his next Worlds Championships and the last stage include the circuit, with some cobbles...
