I'm well aware of the disease label Kwashiorkor ... and I'm also aware of like any disease .. there is no conclusive evidence of it's origin . I've read many different studies on it and they all say something a little different.

But hey ... we're not speaking of starving people here.... so let us not get off on that tangent. We're speaking of protein and the vegan diet ... and whether or not it is sufficient to sustain our lives.

We can debate until the cows come home ... but people are gonna do what they know ... think they know that is ... lol. In the realm of all life .... the big picture .... arguing over such things only shows our ignorance to ourselves. That said ... welcome to the first day of the last day of humanity.

If one can listen and not be offended ... your heart is open. If one takes offense to what has been said ... it is your heart that beckons. :)

Well its true. Just cos xyz person does drugs or something or is overweight doesnt make em a bad person does it? Yeah its a bad choice but IMHO doesnt make em bad people.

People do the best with the information they have. Lots of people dont believe anything but the status quo dogma. How can I say they are bad people when they dont even know better?
imo its a bit passive aggressive.

I am not offended by what anyone here has to say. I know what we are talking about and who we are talking about. I'm pretty sure I am not being ignorant of anything going on here and I doubt that you are.

I am just employing DR tactics in using a broad or out of context statements to support the counterargument to what he has stated. Maybe imitation is the ultimate form of flattery?! I'm sure DR won't mind - if he reads it and disagrees with it he ignores it anyway. Regardless, when DR states that protein deficiency has not killed anyone it is important to point out that it has killed many millions of starving people. No we are not talking about athletes or vegans, we are talking about starving people who cannot consume sufficient protein and calories to sustain life. That's sad in itself, but it is still reality that protein-calorie malnutrition does kill.

yes ... the answer to everything is ... "shoulda gone vegan"

Veg head Fred said to meathead Jed ..... "you really should go vegan"

mj - Why?
vf - because it will solve all your problems
mj - you mean my farts won't stink ? my pits won't reak? i'll get a six pack of abs ?
vf - yeah ... you shoulda gone vegan dude
mj - you mean my bike wouldn't have been stolen if I had gone vegan?
vf - yup ...shoulda gone vegan
mj - the world would all be fed and happy and in euphoria ?
vf - yup ...shoulda gone vegan
mj - my wife wouldn't have left me ?
vf - yup ...shoulda gone vegan
mj - I wouldn't have been fired ?
vf - yup ... shoulda gone vegan

at this point Jed is feeling pretty annoyed with veghead fred ... and he drops him with a right hook

vf - watcha do that for ?
mf - I couldn't help myself .... I didn't go vegan

Even a meat eating hack like me has raced with Jono Cantwell of Saxo Bank, but I thought I had to be vegan to be able to do so?

Did you actually eat any meat while racing him. maybe that is what got you through

that's the slight issue i have with his declarations. i mean the guy did 1100 km's in a week recently. That's got to be what 30-40000 calories.

I agree when his point is, look i can ride 1100 kms in a week without eating meat so you do not need meat to be an athlete. Do not like it when he implies that all meat eaters are fat b@stards.

Do not believe he level of fitness and weight has anything to do with his diet and has everything to do with his slightly obsessive and intense personality. that is what allows him to train so hard and that is why he spends so much time talking about being vegan.

obviously Durian is a good bike rider and good on him for trying to educate some on his lifestyle and encourage people to be healthier, just cannot help but think it would be better if he learned to dilute the intensity sometimes.

Have to say i enjoyed his latest video.

I don't think he should change a thing

I mean I can t counter him because I eat meat and I am a little fat

#We still dont have a word for protein deficiency on earth. If you give starving people 80g of protein powder a day, they are still starving people and will die from kwashiorkor. If you give them enough calories from fruit & corn per day, they wont die. Yet fruit 'doesnt have protein in it' some people say. I guess they dont know much about nutrition. No such thing as protein deficiency cos if there was, you could just slip people a sachet of protein powder a day and they would survive..like scurvy or pernicious anemia etc.

#Ran the Bangkok marathon on Sunday. First white guy across the line. Ran
135km TOTAL over the last 6 weeks and ran a 3:07 in 30 celcius Bangkok heat.

Those corn and banana munching Kenyans just took off like it was a 5k lol! They were running for 12$k first place. With an income of 770$ average per year in Kenya, thats like 15 years wages..

Funny that Kenyan athletes eat such a LOW protein diet based on corn, rice and bananas yet are the worlds greatest runners.

Protein deficient vegan on ******** minimal training was the first white guy home. What happend to all the protein sufficient expats that live here in Bangkok? How come I dropped em all? Heck, I entered the night before as a bit of a laugh. Running a marathon around Bangok seemed like a bit of an adventure. Especially when it started at 3am in the morning lol!

Maybe my gf is spiking my food with EPO and thats why I can bang it out on hardly any training?

You're probably too young to remember Joh Bjelke Petersen. He had a great saying about "feeding the chooks", as he referred to his daily press conferences with the media. I think a similar thing is happening on this thread. :)

durainrider. Dude I challenge you to do the Tour Divide on your 29er. I am serious. Self supported race both food, shelter and mechanical.

you can promote Vegan from Canada to the Mexico border and document the foods you find along the way

since you dont have a job and all ;)

And everyone knows that Joh was a delusional fool (except maybe for some parochial banana benders)! :D

I know of at least one person who saw at least one of his videos

"Raw vegan and serial attention-who're Harley “Durianrider” Johnstone also gets a few mentions (by Tom Billings), for allegations of welfare fraud and physical threats against fellow vegan David Wolfe. The latter filed a lawsuit against Johnstone for infringement of copyright and libel."http://anthonycolpo.com/?p=2928

Investigating Raw Vegan and Other Diet Gurus:
Can You Trust Them?

http://www.beyondveg.com/billings-t/special/raw-vegan-gurus.shtml

...

Crikey! Vegans eating their own ...ooh, da' irony! I'm off to take a shower now--I feel "icky"!

Although in fairness to DR, David Wolfe's lawsuit seems spurious. And his video is comedy gold.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnhr-1V7MiI&feature=relmfu

Admittedly, it's DR's edit. I had no idea that chocolate is an octave and aligns with the sun! I also like him accusing some other raw vegan guru of eating a chicken sandwich back in the day.

http://www.rawveronica.com/raw-vegan-cyber-bullies/

Somebody should tell David Wolfe to lay off the coke ...

And it's nice to see that Bernarr Zovluck has overcome his "progressive" catatonic schizophrenia" and become yet another raw vegan guru and octogenarian body builder.

http://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=13926053651929114394&q=bernarr+zovluck&hl=en&as_sdt=2,5

There seems to be a distinct heirarchy to not eating meat:

Vegetarians: epic fail
Vegans: ehhh ...
Raw Vegans: Super Awesome!!

Yet, when I read the original Vegan manifesto they don't make any distinction between cooked and raw- the 80/10/10er's (aka 811er's) don't even allow herbs and spices. Harley, I believe you belong to that subset, no? Your Vegan Food pyramid seems a little less ... ah ... ardent, shall we say.

Beware of people claiming to have the ultimate truth. It always ends badly ...

He ran the state for nearly 20 years. Took it from a backwater to unprecedented wealth. How do you do that if you are a "delusional fool"?

Tapping into the uber left wing narrative there aren't we? What else is in this week's Big Issue?

Wow - hit a nerve there did I? That extra hour of sunlight will fade the curtains ya know. :D

George W. was just voted the worst post-WW2 president and yet he still served two terms. How long you're in office has no bearing on how intelligent or foolish you are, George W. being a perfect example. Joh is just a less well known example. Time to feed the chooks ...

Well GW must be a delusional fool too. Heck his IQ is probably only 65. Wonder how he got that Yale degree. And the people who voted him in twice in a row, well their IQ's must be only 65 combined. The whole government were delusional fools, all the government departments were staffed with delusional fools. Why on Earth didn't they get Elapid in to run the place, he's the only guy I know who isn't a delusional fool?

You're a fool for thinking people that are intelligent cannot be foolish and stupid. Again, George W. and Joh are great examples of intelligent people who can be stupid. As you well know, there are websites dedicated to the stupid things that George W. said and did. And Joh was well known for his gaffs too. But Polyarmour you better not run for office because the chinks are showing in your armour and you seem to be taking this a bit too personally.

Ok, now I'm a fool too. What is it with you and fools? Is that the only insult you know?

Nah, I know more. :D But I wasn't intending to insult you - even you would probably know when I was actually trying to insult you. You're taking things a little too personally if you think I was trying to insult you.

Here are some quotes from Sir Joh:

On the Joh for PM campaign: "I'm a bushfire raging across the country." And when it failed: "I never really wanted to go anyway."

On human rights: "What's the ordinary man in the street got to do with it?"

On condoms: "We don't want any of that sort of thing up here."

Not quite as funny or ridiculous as George W., but still very quotable.

The best thing about this thread is the thick skin druainrider has. he takes a beating and it doesn't even faze his position on the subject. he doesn't even suggest he doesn't deserve it either.

good on ya druainrider. funny motherFo

the worst thing about this thread is that it comes to mind when I eat a steak
