I think that Pinot will win the MB, even though I voted for Quintana... I think it would be better for both riders if Quintana won it instead of Pinot. Quintana seems like a more humble guy to me and wouldn't let it go to his head. Pinot needs to keep developing to reach his true potential... He can't afford to let success decrease his training in favor of short term success.

I find it interesting that Quintana has beaten accomplished tt'ers like porte on numerous occasions. TJ is similar ability to porte in a tt yes??

Quintana has actually only beaten Porte in the Pais Vasco TT and 2012 Vuelta TTT out of the 8 TT's they've both competed in.

As far as Tejay and Porte are concerned, I'd say their fairly similar. I'd rate Porte slightly higher though. They've competed with each other in the TT 17 times, with Tejay coming out better 7 times and Porte coming out better 10 times.

what I was trying to say is that Quintana is a very good tt'er (highly underestimated imo) and could potentially beat TJ. so he has about a ~35% chance of beating TJ in a tt based on past results?

I'd say he has a good chance of beating him or being close to him in the second TT this Tour, as it is rather hilly. Tejay will probably come out better in the first one and Movistar could very well beat BMC in the TTT.

But whatever he loses in the TT to Tejay (and he may not end up losing that much) he should be able to make up with a good performance on one of the big MTF stages.

On what planet would Movistar would beat BMC? I'd put my money on BMC winning the TTT.

sky will win ttt. Movistar won the vuelta ttt with decent tt'ers in sky like froome, so little difference between bmc and movistar.
top 5 will include in no order: garmin, OPQS, BMC, Sky and movistar

Movistar won the last 2 TTTs on GTs. I agree that it's not going to be that easy this time, but I think they are capable of making the podium. In other words, they won't lose much time to BMC or any other team for that matter.

Movistar have shown themselves to be a team very good at the TTT. BMC could beat them, but it wouldn't be a surprise at all if Movistar came out better.

Movistar won the 2012 Vuelta TTT, placed 2nd in the Giro TTT this year, 2nd at the TA TTT this year. Of course you would have to look at who was part of the teams fore each of these, but I don't want to do all that work. But these results show that Movistar have become very strong in the TTT.

Planet Giro and Vuelta.

Movistar is just great in TTT, that simple. I hope you didn't bet too much money on that

Sky won in the giro.

Sky won in the giro.

Very different races with very different teams. The best TTT squads come to the Tour. Garmin, Belkin, BMC, OPQS, Saxo and Sky will all beat Movistar

Neither announced yet, but these are the longlists.

BMC (12 riders) - Evans, Van Garderen, Bookwalter, Burghardt, Frank, Gilbert, Hushovd, Moinard, Morabito, Nerz, Quinziato, Schar.

Movistar (12 riders) - Valverde, Quintana, Costa, Amador, Castroviejo, Erviti, Gutierrez, Jesus Herrada, Karpets, Plaza, Rojas, Szmyd.

that's a strong team tbh. any idea about movistar's team? the gaps aren't that large in a ttt (unless it's a terrible team like euskatel). I see 3rd place for bmc and movistar under 20 seconds behind (top 5) as both teams are very decent at the ttt. saxo have a lot of climbers so I don't think they'll do as well, top 5 at best due to kreuziger and rogers being present.

I don't think Quintana stands a chance versus TJVG and Talansky in a flat one. In a hilly or mountain tt yes.

Is this another "FACT"? :p As has been shown, Movistar has become formidable as a team versus the clock so I don't think one can say with certainty that all the teams that you mention will beat them.

Talansky himself isn't a super time trialist on the flat.

Well I never said that he was a super time trialist just that he's much better in a flat itt than Quintana. Of course Quintana has improved this year from his past performances against the clock.

You're right, but still its not important coz Quintana can beat them both by minutes in mountain stages if he rides for GC.

Talansky and Garderen are ttlists with climbing like Wiggins not climbers, thats why I voted for Quintana, but it can be Pinot too.

Quintana is going to be dedicated to Valverde according to what they both have said to the media. Quintana thinks that he will be given a bit of freedom to pursue his own interests should the course of the race allow it. The question is will Quintana's service to Valverde compromise his opportunities to use his climbing superiority over his maillot blanc rivals, especially those like Pinot who will have a singular purpose in the Tour?

Yes, Nairo has all the qualities to win the white jersey this year for me! Especially with the profile of the 2013 edition, he has nothing to envy to his opponents... Vamos Nairo! :)
