Agree or disagree, but I don't see anyone who showed his face all year and won the big ones. And if you don't win big ones (Valverde), you can't be the Cyclist of the Year. You can't be the Cyclist of the Year if you designate a main objective and DNF. So for what it's worth, and I'm not here to convince anyone, I'm going with the one who accomplished his main objective and got the biggest win: Nibali.
If I understood well, a Cyclist of the Year cannot be a rider who wins 2nd-tier GTs and and one-week races, and neither a rider who just goes for points and podiums places. Then the unanimous choice is Nibali as Cyclist of the Year.

Let me spell it out for you,

Best. of. 2014.

Its not about only winning the biggest race
Its not about being the most consistent high place finisher
Its not about July
Its not about the one rainy cobbles crash festival
It's about being the best rider of the whole year

What part of that don't you understand

Gotta love all those Contador fans who discover cycling only when Contadull crashes on Bore (by his own mistake) and then claim he was consistent throughout the year with only 65 race days in the count, and of course no classics...

They were the first to claim that only Bore mattered a few years ago...

Don't make me laugh, I hate the TDF. But it is the most important race.

and he was consistent, or in your opinion only finishing 2nd or first in every stage race finished is not consistent?

It's been backed up, ad nauseum, why by some of us. What part of that don't you understand? ;)

Isn't this Dauphiné? Widely known as a training race, warm-up race?

Funny enough Nibali was with the favorites with less than a Km to go.

Well, obviously you don't understand your own post, since Bertie managed just one second place from mid April until mid September.;)

It reads like a pretty good advertisement for Valverde, though.;)

It's not about riding a bike

which single second place between mid april and mid september do you mean, the 3 in the dauphine or the one where he dropped Nibali?

Valverde didn't win any international race between FW and the Vuelta btw

Yep this was just a training ride....AC was just warming up. He was building for something even bigger in the Tour. Also funny enough were Nibbes ended up in the over all of the Dauphine. :)

Lets face it Contador has dropped Nibali all his carear it is a fact. He has toyed with Nibali so much. Nibali would have no hope in hell even in his TDF shape of following Froome the way Contador did. Did you see Contador barely in the wheel. Froome beat Nibali with the handbrake on when working as a dom in 2012. Nibali wins the TDF and those guys don't finsh and people say he would have won anyway? Haha yeah you are right we have so much evidence of that haha...

Second in the Dauphine.
For someone who doesn't rate podiums in the monuments at all, you now want to claim placings in stages within a race as being the qualification for being the best all year?

Yeah, right.

Something tells me haven't been following this sport for too long.

As for not winning any international races between FW and the Vuelta, you really ought to check the date on this:

That is what is commonly know as a "Classics".

you were the one who brought up the 2nd places.

Agree with the first part, but history is irrelevant. For some reason that only God (and Vino) knows, Nibali was stronger this year than ever. We'll never know "what if". Maybe Dawg should have had Wiggo lead him in the cobbles, maybe Bertie should have practiced more on the cobbles. Maybe. It shouldn't take anything away from Nibali. He won. Dawg and Bertie did not. That's the only evidence. And BTW, I had my marbles on Contador. And I hate Vino. I puked when he won the OG, and again when he was all smiles on the Champs Elysees. My wildest dream was that he and Nibali would leave their hotel in handcuffs the morning after the ITT, cops carrying bags of chemicals with a spanish address on it. Yes, at the 2014 TdF he was not the "normal" Nibali that you accurately described. He was a better, a much better Nibali. The fact is: he won.

I was only proving that your facts are wrong, I never said they were relevant.

I do admit I forgot San Sebastion though, its still 3 months between Fleche en CSS though, so the difference is only something like 2 weeks

In before next dumb argument
