Deadlift - I'm not sure if you understand this, but one example of a doped rider not performing, is not solid evidence based on history as you insinuate. No reasonable person would make this same deduction unless they were completely uninformed. Please elaborate more on why you think "history" shows doping does not work. And be specific.

the trouble with Virenque is he doped and barely even admitted it despite the evidence then came back and won 7 KOMs. Wonder what he used to managed that feat

As French, I confirm that Virenque, and his family, had to face to very hard days that lasted for 2 years.
He is still used as symbol of doping...

I have this:

2003
Clásico RCN
Stage 4 / Buga - Ibagué (195 km) - winner. Suspended for doping.

My goodness, I had no idea of this. This guy had been a doper and The Colombians were hiding him on their team.

The reason I bring this out is because I heard a strong rumor that there was a positive from La Vuelta a Colombia and that the implicated party was Rujano. If that was true then this second positive would have put an end to his career. The positive rumor came from the "Mundo Ciclistico" magazine from Colombia, but never materialized. Somehow I wonder if the UCI decided to to pursue the charges (???). I doubt the Colombians were helping him since he took our beloved Vuelta a Colombia so easily.

The other interesting thing from that link is that it's from 2007.
In the GT podium lists, the only riders completely clear of doping infractions, were:
Kloden
Guerini
Cauchiolli
Menchov and Sastre.....
.....then there was one....
