Saturn 3 (1980) - Probably for fans of Farrah Fawcett only, but even she was capable of better acting than this bimbo role. Harvey Keitel considers starring in this sci-fi turd the nadir of his career, and why legendary Kirk Douglas was even in it is a mystery. Perhaps it was the only role he could get.

At least the sets were somewhat cool, but the overall feel was just off. Hector didn't feel like a scary robot like Hal or even Terminator, he was more like a pervy cartoon. Anyway, it's not the worst sci-fi flick I've ever seen, but if one wants a good example of bad sci-fi Saturn 3 certainly fits the bill.

Minority Report (2002) - My first time watching this, I should have known it was a Spielberg movie. Whether meant for kids or adults he usually sneaks in some unnecessary cutesy bits that totally take me out of the moment. That and Tom Cruise was, well, Tom Cruise, but all in all this wasn't too bad of a sci-fi action flick. Surprisingly at over two hours it didn't drag, and the CGI department must have had a blast.

On a side note - not that I've actually read it, but I wish the plot had stuck more to the original short story by Philip K. ***, I think it would have been more grim and more suited for adults. Minority Report was meant for pretty much everybody, it did make a killing at the box office and in DVD sales.

Yes not a bad movie. Haven't read the story but I have read a lot of PK *** novels.

I looked up all the production info and stuff at IMDb after watching Minority Report, turns out Blade Runner was also based on a short story by PK ***. That makes me think if Spielberg had stuck to the original short story more Minority Report would have been more grim, and perhaps even better. (Not that Spielberg and Cruise were complaining though, they both took a nice paycheck home from Minority Report as it had been produced.)

I think his books are pretty much unfilmable in their original states, lots of crazy stuff going on. They are usually pretty loose adaptations. Even Blade Runner was quite different to the book but I thought it was a much better movie.

From what I remember of Minority Report, I found it to be an OK movie. Definitely watchable, but not on the list of favorite movies.

We have watched the new Black Widow movie. Found it to be good. I'd rank it as a mid pack MCU movie. We do finally get told what happened in Budapest. I found that a bit anticlimactic for how long we've been waiting to know. Without giving anything away the biggest issue I (and my husband) found with the movie was the pacing.

Nut my cup of tea, won't be seeing that one. I got bored with the the Star Wars movies years ago and don't watch MCU or Marvel movies anymore generally. Some of the Batman, Spiderman movies I liked but unfortunately the Predator, Alien and Terminator franchises have all taken a dive in quality. All of them peaked in the 80s it seems while Alien never improved on the original 1979 movie. Aliens was good and different but not better. Cinema seems to be treading water at the moment. TV programming at least on some channels is providing better quality than mainstream cinema these days. Can't remember the last time I went to the cinema and was blown away by a quality movie. But its fun to go back and pick up movies I missed or rewatch certain movies.

I prefer Aliens over Alien. I agree the ones after Aliens the rest of the franchise isn't that good. I like some of the X-Men movies and many of the MCU movies. Black Widow I put in the middle of the MCU movies. I love The Winter Soldier and Civil War. I also happen to be a fan of Marvel comics. Grew up with them in the 80's and 90's. Granted some of the characters they've got in the movies I don't know very well at all because I never read any of those comics. Granted some characters have changed over time in the comics since the 90's as well.

Yeah I didn't mind the early X Men movies. I was never a big reader of comics but used to read a lot of film magazines until the majority became extinct like the dinosaurs............

I'm a huge X-Men fan. Granted some of that may come from not just reading the comics but having friends who also were comic and specifically X-men fans as well while growing up. So although there are definite issues with the X-Men movies, I still enjoy most of them. Wolverine Origins and X3 are Dark Phenix and New Mutants. I had been excited with New Mutants because one of the characters in it is Magic whom I like in the comics.

Rewatched The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) - I haven't read Tolkien's books so can't speak of the movie's accuracy, and I just can't warm up to Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom. But otherwise this is definitely a visually stunning movie. The scenery and sets are wonderful (I love the little houses the Hobbits live in, they're so cute), the CGI isn't too distracting, and Viggo Mortensen is nice to look at. My fave creatures are actually the Ents from The Two Towers, but I won't rewatch the whole trilogy because I just don't feel like investing the time. But, the whole trilogy is kind of addicting, if I hadn't seen the sequels already I would definitely be sucked into watching them.

Isn't it just darling? I want one of these. :D

Too bad the Hobbit movies didn't match the same standard as the LOTRs films although I liked the second one more than the other two. I liked the first two LOTR movies more than the final one which seemed to go on and on..............and now a TV series on the way but not involving Peter Jackson I don't think.

I was going to ask if you guys had seen The Hobbit movies and if they are any good. I meant to watch them, but just never got around to it. Don't think I can muster up much enthusiasm for a TV series.,,

I've seen them and agree with movingtarget. They are ok. They are worth watching, but I don't have any interest in watching them again. LOTR trilogy is much better and I own the DVDs (extended cut). Never bothered to buy the DVDs for the Hobbit series.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) - Well, frankly I started fast-forwarding through all the chase and battle scenes because I got bored, this left very little else. I will not be continuing this journey with Bilbo, have no interest in the Hobbit sequels. At least Richard Armitage (who didn't look like a Dwarf at all) was nice to look at, as were the little Hobbit houses in the first few scenes. So there's that.

Sisters (1973) an early Brian De Palma movie that has dated quite badly. Lots of Hitchcock references but little of his humor and style. De Palma made Carrie a few years later which was infinitely better. Jennifer Salt and Margot Kidder were pretty good in the main roles.

Ida (2013) a low key Polish movie about an orphaned girl trying to find information about her parents who disappeared during WWII. Outstanding black and white visuals. A short film but a meaningful one with good performances and interesting characters.
