The Snowman (2017) - The timeline was a bit confusing and the plot not very original, but the beautifully snowy Norwegian scenery more than made up for it in this crime drama. It was a bit sad to see Val Kilmer, I think he was already ill back then because it looked like he was struggling to speak. (He had had throat cancer and had several surgeries and chemo to get rid of it.) But the rest of the cast was all right. Again, the plot wasn't very original, but the atmosphere and scenery were just stunning.
Agree, the movie looked great but the rest of it was meh...........I didn't even recognize Kilmer at first, he looked rough.

I did some more reading up on the movie, turns out all of Kilmer's lines were dubbed because his tongue had been so swollen after a throat procedure that he literally couldn't speak. So that explains that. Aaaand, the director himself hated the movie because about 15% of the script never got filmed due to time constraints, so the movie is actually an incoherent mess. I guess I was being too kind in my review, but I did like the scenery. :D

Daisy Jones and the Six (series):

Each episode was compelling enough to get me to watch the next episode, but all in all I was left wanting something more each time, and especially after episode 10. IMO, episode 10 was a poor ending. The storyline was believable (tragedy in in the band, and in life), and the content similar to other episodes, but it just wasn't...I don't even know how to describe it.
6/10

Tart (2001) - A very depressing coming-of-age drama, it reminded me of Thirteen (2003) and Bully (2001). None of those are something that will put you into a cheerful mood. Incidentally, Brad Renfro starred in both Bully and Tart, a few years later he died of a drug overdose. Not that one has necessarily anything to do with the other, but Renfro had apparently led a troubled life since he was very young, so perhaps that is why he had been cast in such dark roles.

Haven't seen Tart but the other two were not exactly happy viewing experiences.

Didn't know he died of a drug overdose at age 25.

Burnt (2015) staring Bradley Cooper. Basically Bradley Cooper's character is a chief who screws up and ends up going to a friend to have his friend hire him to run the kitchen of the restaurant. Bradley Cooper's character is basically trying to restart his career and earn a Michelin 3 star rating. I enjoyed it. I've also worked in restaurants (both kitchen and front of house) and this movie has the best depiction of how a kitchen runs of movies set in restaurants that I've seen. I've been wanting to watch it because reviews I've read have said it's the best "restraurant" movie, and I agree with that. The other main reason I wanted to see it, is my favorite actor, Daniel Bruhl plays one of the main support characters in this movie. (He plays the character that gives Cooper's character a second chance.)

First Signal (2021) - You know when you watch a trailer and think the movie looks pretty cool and you just have to watch it? Well, that's what I thought about First Signal. If nothing else it looked like it had some inviting special effects, but after ten minutes of terrible acting, casting, wardrobe, and dialogue I gave up, this sci-fi flick was just so bad it was actually unwatchable.

To expand a bit the part I actually managed to watch was where the characters were just sitting around a table and having inane conversations, so no action (sci-fi or otherwise) was taking place. No action and just dialogue is not necessarily bad, it work terrifically in Conspiracy (2001). But then Conspiracy had strong actors and dialogue (and very serious subject matter), so no action was needed. I cannot say the same about First Signal.

Massive Talent (2022) Stars Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal. It is a funny movie. The movie is as funny as the trailers say it is. It also has an insanely crazy twist at the end. If you're looking for a fun movie, consider this one. Basically Cage plays himself. Pascal plays a Spaniard who's family is involved in organized crime. He wants to be a script writer and isn't really involved in organized crime. It just is crazy.

Anna Nicole Smith..documentary about her.. interesting on many many levels.. from her discovery til death.
Big George Foreman.. I loved the guy.. his movie was as if Lifetime network asked around during a writers strike and said can anyone write, direct and produce a movie for $5000 bucks..
Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley afterwards she made 2 movies.. Robots..it's what you think.. and there are some funny parts were the look alike robots get into the stand in position for their human.. Clone comedy of sorts ..5\10..and the other one is a little better.. To Catch a Killer.. same story.. serial murderer.. She is picked to be a criminal profiler and she plays cat and mouse.. Lots of good actors.. Not much good acting..6\10..
Ben Affleck just bought a new house w J-Lo..in order to make money Ben made 2 movies in a couple of weeks.. Hypnotic is a 2\10..almost unwatchable.. and you can't follow the story because the director and actors can't either.. Ben's other soft core porn is titled.. Deep Water.. Ana de Armas is absolutely beautiful in every way.. and she is lets say set on an open marriage.. Ben goes up and down on an emotional rollercoaster as his wife's in your face infidelity causes Affleck to occasionally murder her lovers when it's too much for him..4\10.
Reality is about a US intelligence specialist who shares classified information.. Good.. Sydney Sweeney is excellent..7\10..
John Wick 14..terrible..3\10
White Men Can't Jump.. Ok..sweet story..6\10..entertaining

Rarely are remakes as good, or better.
That could be a thread in itself....What remakes were as good or better than the original?
True Grit springs to mind.
I think this could be fun, but it would take some thinking.

On that note virtually every movie gets remade these days, so I think it's important we include the year a movie was made when posting about it because there may be a previous, and probably better, version of it. (The day they remake Silence of the Lambs, Se7en, or god forbid, 2001: A Space Odyssey, I will cry into my pillow!)

I liked both versions of True Grit. Don't think I preferred the newer one any more. The newer one definitely had more humor and more violence. I was never a huge John Wayne fan but I liked him in that one. But as a general rule, remakes are rarely better than the original same with sequels. The Godfather II was probably one of the greatest sequels ever made and pretty much matched the original for quality.

Unsure the criteria.. but personally for me.. Jeff Bridges wearing a cowboy hat and boots has been a formula for movies I enjoy. He'll or High Water and Crazy Heart are enjoyable and many of the funny, insulting scenes in Crazy Heart.. way way has been country music star keeps singing for his supper..literally and some extra dark humor when he has some shows scheduled at a dirty rural bowling alley.. Bad Blake( Bridges) goes to the bowling alley bar to get buzzed on whiskey.. thinking he is important, the headliner, assuming wrong that he will get some free booze..pretty funny..

Rarely makes a bad movie. Enjoyed both of those movies and The Big Lebowski was another one and very funny.
