Re-watched Gosford Park (2001) - Such a smart and well-crafted murder mystery with a terrific cast, I think the only issue I had was Emily Watson talked so softly and so fast even the subtitles couldn't keep up with her and I don't like to miss any dialogue. But that aside the sets, scenery, and costumes were great, and I liked the subtle jibes they took at the filmmaking industry. (Like Maggie Smith quipping she could never tell the difference between a producer and a director - lol!) It is over two hours long but I think those are two hours well spent.
Screenplay by Julian Fellows, who went to modest success with that Downton Abbey tv series.

Salem's Lot (2024) the third and worst adaptation of Stephen King's novel. Barely made it to the finish. Mediocre.
This movie is terrible.. Each scene worst than the previous one.. and the bizarre leadership roll of a black kid wearing glasses named Petre!!the horny real estate secretary ,troubled priest, ominous drive in movie theater!! Glowing cross!! Vampire kids with light bulb eyes!! Toss in some Gordon Lightfoot!! And a couple of bar scenes.. Beer brands and signs that were not created until years after film time frame!! They didn't skimp on correct period cars..the school principle is goofy team co-captain!!

Good movies:
Omni Loop.
.starring Mary Louise Parker..famous for Weeds!! She is terminally ill, she is able to enter a time warp..cool concept and film..soundtrack and surround music really add to the movie..
Carry-On
Terrorist action movie, Jason Bateman is a superior bad guy..everything is what you expect, not high art but for a fairly worn out format, surprised that it's watchable. Not bad
Le Comte de Monte Cristo..
French take on Count of Monte Cristo..don't know how much it costs but you get a feeling of being in the time period, all the costumes and art and design stuff are great. A movie I expected to hate, really good
N'Avoue Jamais.
Funny for sure. Retired military man( France) accidentally stumbles across decades old love letters between his wife and another man from @40 years previous, he still freaks out..couple and all adult family get into a silly, but humorous argument about everything.. Surprise ending!! Entertaining for sure..
The Outrun
A great movie in every way. Bunch of super complicated subjects made into one movie, I am sure something is wrong with this film, don't know what. And the backdrop is completely unfamiliar to me, it's extremely beautiful and unique. If this movie is not an award winner nothing is

Longlegs (2024) Slow burn thriller, heavy on atmosphere. Well acted but the two main performances will be off putting for some. A another freaky performance by Nicholas Cage while the other performance is so low key that is it just as disturbing as Cage's for opposite reasons. Similar in tone to films like Seven and Silence Of The Lambs. Pretty good overall.

North By Northwest (1959) Entertaining Alfred Hitchcock movie with nice performances from Cary Grant, James Mason and Eve-Marie Saint. Witty dialogue and some iconic scenes on Mt Rushmore, and with the crop duster chase scene.. Probably second tier Hitchcock, Doesn't quite hit the heights of his very best movies but worth watching all the same.

I've seen that flick several times - good movie. Good ole Cary Grant. One of my favorite actors back then along with The Duke, McQueen, Douglas & Eastwood. And Eve-Marie Saint was pretty hot back then. Being a Boomer, I get one of the classic movie channels & watch a lot of those old flicks.
If you want to see something aging with beauty and grace..Julie Christie!!
Dr Zhivago..1965!! Heaven Can Wait..1978..and Away from Her( great movie!!) In 2006 she is old, awesome and forever beautiful in my opinion!!

The Stendhal Syndrome (1996) maybe Dario Argento's last reasonably good movie. A psychological thriller with some scenes that wouldn't get past the censor these days. The acting was better than usual for an Argento movie and the concept was interesting but after a good first half it couldn't keep the momentum going. Needed a bit of tweaking. As usual for his films, some great imagery and one or two bonkers scenes !

The Mirror (1975) if you like slow meditative films with no conventional story line then you might like this. One of Andrei Tarkovsky's less accessible movies with lots of time shifts. Some superb visuals and lots of mystery re the meaning of events. Interesting and worth watching for fans of such films.

A Different Man..2024
Good movie, has lots of simplicity in the story. Reminded me a bit of Harry Nilsson- The Point.
Main character suffers from a condition and his head and face are disfigured and through a series of semi miracles is transformed into a handsome gentleman only to discover that makes him less special.
The music used in this film is perfect, just sets an overall ambience that is seamless

The Silent Hour 2024
Stars someone I usually love Mark Strong. Cop loses his hearing but is still allowed to continue doing police work (?) Somehow gets involved in a hostage rescue in semi abandoned apartments that are being refurbished. Entire film is criminals and cops chasing each other, shooting at each other in a dark construction site, lots of plastic sheeting and building materials to hide behind.. Spoiler.. He saves the girl..scale from 1-10 ..one being horrible, I give it a one because my TV didn't blow up!!

The Room Next Door 2024
Starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. Both actresses are very interesting to look at, film has Swinton w a serious illness and Moore as her caring and concerned friend. Movie is 98% of camera close ups of each of their faces as they talk to one another, and some good old days flashbacks of their relationship over the years. Don't know what studio execs funded the film, likely fired.

Here 2024
Tom Hank and Robin Wright
Just more proof that the sum of the parts doesn't always mean good final product. Good actors, director, art director, concept, everyone did their thing, movie was not very good.. I had great expectations.

Annihilation (2019) Ambitious sc/fi directed by Alex Garland. Thought provoking, with strong visuals.. Not a great movie but watchable and never dull.
Good movie, visual effects and photography were great.. Some of the over the top colors that fill the screen are special. I am a Oscar Isaac mega fan. The scene in the lighthouse as strange being mimics the every move of Natalie Port man's character was cool, well done.
