Finally? Seriously?
The have changed the line in the CN article from "finally came back positive" to "ultimately came back positive". Must be a translation thing.

I liked "finally". It made the headline tell the whole story.GotDropped said:The have changed the line in the CN article from "finally came back positive" to "ultimately came back positive". Must be a translation thing.

GotDropped said:"Finally" sounds like they tested and re-tested and re-tested until the got the result they wanted. "Ultimately" sounds like in the end, after testing, they were positive.
To me, "finally" just sounds like "We all knew they had tons of dope in them, and finally someone bothered to test them and make sure". But I agree that's not how it'd come across to most casual fans.GotDropped said:"Finally" sounds like they tested and re-tested and re-tested until the got the result they wanted. I believe 2003 was the year L.A. lost almost 3 minutes to Ullrich in the ITT.Animal said:He found it tough in 2003 though. That's one of the years I was there on the roadside (as a misled fanboy)
He looked haggard and sunken eyed on the Col de Ramaz which was the first major climb.
Some experimental protocol?
The_Z_man said:If these samples are positive, I hate to say it, but nothing will happen. Lance is going to deflect and explain away the positives, and nobody is going to care.
It's happened before, and I don't see why anything would change.

VeloGirl said:He'll say "they tested and tested and tested until they go the results they were looking for".
He'll say he has "no idea how those sample were handled. He'll say they could have been contaminated.
And all of his fans will believe every single word.

The Hitch said:yeah but in discussions on radio and stuff, the presenters were portraying lance as taking this heroic - **** yall, i have other things to do, attitude.

Briant_Gumble said:According to my understanding this was the first time this particular blood or urine sample was actually tested? They presumably tested for multiple substances at once but this was in fact the first time it was tested.
tofino said:Lots of talk about being protected by the UCI. Talk about the 20 minute wait by the tester by the unannounced test in France. Brunyeel said something about checking the guy if I remember correctly.
Talk about 2005 and French Paris police ready to raid Discovery team but raid called off.

Classement final : 1 Armstrong, 2 Basso, 3 Ullrich, 4 Mancebo, 5 Vinokourov, 6 Leipheimer, 7 Rasmussen, 8 Evans, 9 Landis, 10 Pereiro Sio.
GotDropped said:I don't think you understood what I was getting at as I was referring to the posible reason for changing the wording in the article and not what was actually done.

I haven't heard or seen this comment in the original French but the French word "enfin" often translate sappropriately to "finally" but the more literal translation is actually to "in the end". "Ultimately tested positive" seems more likely.
