Nibali next year programe giro or tour?

Evans had luck with the bs time penalties for alot of the favorites, tons of people getting eliminated due to injuries and Contador being wiped out from the Giro. Evans did his part, but if he performed the same and one or two of those things above didn't happen, he wouldn't win it.

It's not Evans fault that Contador wanted to do the double. We will never know how much of Contador's lack of top form was his knee injury and how much was due to fatigue. If his knee was that bad someone as astute as Riis would not have let him continue to risk further damage. Evans was in the best form of his career throughout the year and it's a big assumption to think that any of the riders that fell would have beaten him. Contador's time lost due to falls would not have effected the result. Evans had the smarts to ride at the front as did Armstrong in every Tour he won avoiding the carnage for the most part. Evans proved the strongest over three weeks and the last three stages proved it. It's called sport, you win some you lose some. I am already looking forward to next year's TDF. It could be a real dogfight between Evans, Contador, Schleck and one or two others.

I think at Bassos age a lack of results this year no matter what circumstance takes away his ability to select his own goals, i think Nibali with a 3rd in the Giro and a 7th in the Vuelta is the one with the right to choose his preference now, Sagan will race the tour id have thought probably Nibali does tour but not Giro, Basso Giro Tour again like 2010

i would say yes. if the parcours are harder (aka longer climbs) he might have a chance at dropping gilbert on the climb and gilbert won't catch him on the descent

p.s. i expect the next post to be from pistolero saying that gilbert is a better descender then nibali.

Ultimately, NIbali is simply better and inside that little head of yours, you know he will always will be. I know it will be hard to accept for you but you'll get there. Gesink will always find a way to lose.

Both Basso & Nibali can win the Giro but only Nibali can podium in the tour.

So from a team perspective Basso to do the Giro and Nibali to do the tour.

From a Nibali perspective it's about weighing up a possible Giro win against a Tour podium but both are great routes for Nibali.

The GIro 2010 and 11 editions were special.

2012 is hardly easy, but we might want to consider the idea that going for both races will no longer be as hard.

Afterall, Wiggins rode the 2009 Giro and came 4th at the Tour.

Ok so he used it as a warmup but then the guy who beat him to the Tour podium spot went a lot harder at the Giro, even if not full out. Didnt take it easy thats for sure.

And in 2008 Menchov came 5th and 4th. Basso Sastre and others were going for 2 gts in a row all the time during the mid 2000's.

So now that we dont have the supergiro routes of last 2 years, maybe riders can bring reasonable form to the TOur.

According to translations in the Giro thread, after Scarponi joked that Contador and Nibali should do the Tour, Nibali said that he likes the Giro course and thinks he can do well.

My guess would be that Nibali does the Giro then goes to the tour as 2nd option behind Basso. Szmyd gets saved for the Tour. Liqui try 2010 Giro mountains expedition on France.

Even though there arent many mountains there.

Seems obvious to me, and seemingly to every Italian commentator I've heard or read since both courses were announced.

National sentiment might get in the way, but I'd say that if there were one physical style of rider which the TdF 2012 courses fits for the GC, it would be a Nibali-style rider.

Good enough to stay with most of the top TTers and climbers, but also has the characteristics to get away with an ambush group on the lumpy 'intermediate' stages.

I'm not sure about temperament though.

honestly the guys seem to get along pretty well so they should be able to come to an agreement without many troubles.
i would prefer to see nibali winning the giro but understand the need he and the team have for a good performance in in the tour, after all he hasn't raced the tour since 2009, and basso reaching the end of his career prolly wants another giro win instead of a top 10 at the tour
