It's not Evans fault that Contador wanted to do the double. We will never know how much of Contador's lack of top form was his knee injury and how much was due to fatigue. If his knee was that bad someone as astute as Riis would not have let him continue to risk further damage. Evans was in the best form of his career throughout the year and it's a big assumption to think that any of the riders that fell would have beaten him. Contador's time lost due to falls would not have effected the result. Evans had the smarts to ride at the front as did Armstrong in every Tour he won avoiding the carnage for the most part. Evans proved the strongest over three weeks and the last three stages proved it. It's called sport, you win some you lose some. I am already looking forward to next year's TDF. It could be a real dogfight between Evans, Contador, Schleck and one or two others.
