Unfortunately not even the FBI can square the circle, trisect an angle, teleport, or reverse gravity. If the drive has been formatted or overwritten, I'm afraid the data's gone. There would be evidence left of the deletion, though.

When you erase a hard drive the data remains. Only the "directory" is erased which allows for the free space on the drive to be overwritten. The data remains until over written. But you can still find parts of the data as hard drives are not contiguous. The data is not stored in sequence on the drive. The directory tells the drive where the data is. If you perform low level format then the data is gone. However in this situation if the drive has been formatted at this level then there will be a record of when the format occurred. That may be enough. Some OS's just erase the file header in a format so some of the data could still be there in this case.

Security cameras tend to run a on cut windows or DOS box so more than likely data recovery will be done with ease. I should also add that most drives will be set up with "partitions" so this will also make data recovery much easier.

Time will tell.

thehog did a good job to get you started. just google 'hard drive forensic software' and you will find what the general public has access to.

Also in a couple of cases i worked on we proved data had been deleted and this brought on even more charges, mostly along the lines of tampering with evidence. It is also fairly easy to determine when a hard drive has been formatted, so after the fact formatting opens eyes. "Whad-ya do that for?" Good rule of thumb for the day, if the police ask you to preserve data on your hard drive, DO IT.

They are...they are. And now you are banned. What a surprise.

Now you are banned, after being taken on and being called whatever names by countless people, while you never used really a rude word.
It's always a shock for the choir, when someone appears having a different opinion and tries to discuss it in a good manner. Doesn't work either.

Another differrent view banned - thats how the majority is built around here.
If you try it nice - you are out immediately.
Easy thing for the mods to sort you out by just saying you are a troll returning.
We'll never know.
Saw much trolling and trolls when reading up last view pages - you were clearly not one of them and it was a refreshing read.
Too fresh. See ya.

Maybe if you looked to see WHY he was banned, you'd see that he is a former member who has been banned numerous times for any number of reasons (i.e. clear forum rules violations), including sockpuppetry.

Jodi Larner admits to "Heads Up" to Armstrong

http://www.aspendailynews.com/section/home/147445

“Larner said she knew Armstrong would be coming into the restaurant that night and gave him a heads up that Hamilton was eating dinner on the patio with a group. As a restaurant owner in a small town, she said she extends the same courtesy to divorcees when one is coming in and the other is already there.”

And yet he still showed up at the restaurant.

Someone needs to tell Jodi to STFU before she manages to cause even more trouble for her "friend".

Oh, and now it's not the tip stiffing incident (apparently resolved by sending a manager running down the street to get a gratuity), but the negative vibe caused by anyone not sympatico with Armstrong.

It's the "No shoes, no shirt, no yellow rubber band, no service" policy.

Right you are. A smarter more rational person would have said "thanks for the heads up I'll steer clear of the restaurant tonight". But he couldn't help himself.....

Can't see much more coming of this but Armstrong is becoming more stupider by the minute.

I don't think that is entirely fair. If you look at the 'member suspensions' area, you aren't given much of a clue as to the reasons for the ban. How did you learn the facts you recite above?

I'm not challenging the accuracy of your statement. I'm just trying to figure out how this site works.

I doubt that we will hear anything more officially until an indictment comes down. Then we will know what the FBI learned and how the matter is viewed by the US Attorney.

This is exactly correct. And even still he went to the restaurant. So when he saw TH - he should have ignored him. Yet he didn't. He can't. He had to save face infront of his "friends". Such an ego. Such an *ss.

Nah saving face would have meant not flying back to Aspen to confront the guy.

Why confront TH and Landis? Hardly saving face to approach 1 and not the other. You end up looking scared of Landis;) which aint too far from the truth is it:)

The owner's explanation sounds fishy. Did Lance have a reservation for that night? What are the chances of that? Does she call people when they do not have reservations to warn them that their ex-spouses are in the restaurant?

The conversation is described as lasting five minutes. That is a long time. It is a lot longer than the two bumping into each other and exchanging a few awkward words.

If you read through the thread, and take the time to PM a mod, you will find that they do quite a bit of research before they permanently ban someone. IP research, etc.

reasons include, but not limited to, being a known returning troll.

Also, the explanation states that he was a "returning" troll. If he was banned before for trolling, then the user name he used before could not be re-used. If he created a new user name to circumvent the previous ban, then that is a sockpuppet account.

Wikipedia - Sockpuppet

A sockpuppet is an online identity used for purposes of deception within an online community. In its earliest usage, a sockpuppet was a false identity through which a member of an Internet community speaks with or about himself or herself, pretending to be a different person,[1] like a ventriloquist manipulating a hand puppet.

In current usage, the perception of the term has been extended beyond second identities of people who already post in a forum or blog to include other uses of misleading online identities. For example, a New York Times article claims that "sockpuppeting" is defined as "the act of creating a fake online identity to praise, defend or create the illusion of support for one's self, allies or company."[2]

...

And this is when we move from the oops, damn, shouldn't have done, was surprised, didn't know he was there excuse...

...all the way to pre-meditation.

One of those 'first degree' encounters that moves us from an accidental situation to premeditated malice ... lying in wait, or other kind of wilful, deliberate, and premeditated act...

Forewarned is and was forearmed.

Yes, I am sure the FBI will appreciate the additional insight. Nice of Larner to start 'cooperating'.

Can't wait until they get the phone records that show the call came before Lance left Tennessee.

Is a restraining order around the corner?
