And how about Lance as a swimmer?
World Class Skills with very little training.
Natural World Class.

His XTERRA swim time was awesome.
4th out of 400+?

World Class as a swimmer? Don't make me laugh. Fourth place in the XTERRA swim only shows the severe lack of swimming skills amongst triathletes.

I wouldn't imagine him to compare with Phelps, Thorpe or Lochte, but I have seen hundreds of young kids, male and female, swimming faster and more smoothly than this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=kLfzv3yEQmU.

No coach worth his salt would accept a dropped elbow like that or hips that drop during each breath.

UGGGGG.

http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2011/...r-patient-wants-according-to-lance-armstrong/

Lance Armstrong has brought attention to cancer through the ubiquitous Livestrong yellow wristbands. But at the same time, his story leaves the “Lance Armstrong effect,” the impression that cancer can be easily defeated and every patient can spring out of bed to achieve great feats much as the seven-time Tour de France winner has.

Dr. David Agus, a cancer expert from University of Southern California, asked Armstrong Wednesday night at TEDMED whether he felt any pressure of being the model of all things going right in cancer treatment.

“It doesn’t go right,” said Armstrong. He responded that every minute, a person in the United States dies from cancer.

And when he meets people living with cancer, the testicular cancer survivor doesn’t dispense advice.

“I don’t say anything,” Armstrong said about when he meets cancer patients. “They don’t expect Vince Lombardi to come in and give tips.”

Here is what every cancer patient wants, according to Armstrong.

“They want to be heard,” he said. “They want me to sit there, look at them in the eye and feel their story.”
thank you for that. i think i just threw up in my mouth.

i am very sure the person i just lost to cancer would have wanted that chance

True - I don't think using 1.3 million gallons a year is fixing it.

Depends on the number of people who actually live there full time, the acreage, and the plants. A 30% reduction may be significant. But anyway, why are we talking about water?

To paraphrase a post I saw in the Joe Papp thread -

"You do realize this is a cycling forum right? The title is CYCLINGnews. You should not expect to find many here interested in discussing water use or shrubbery or acre-feet per year. You are welcome to pretend this is the case, but it is not."

Wise words.

It's so cute how you leap to defend your man like that.....

Thats an interesting point - he spends a lot of time residing in Aspen (ask Tyler) so a 30% reduction is not that impressive.

The thread title is: "..another interesting piece I found on Lance Armstrong" - so the water posts should stay.

Texas has had and is still in an EXTREAM drought for the past year. Wild fires have been a common occurrence in a place that has never had them.

To be using that much water is a waste of a precious resource that needed to be conserved.

His swimming is not that strong. His running is even worse if you can imagine that. All this and he will still just be gifted a spot in the IronMan Kona

I hope to hell he isn't indicted before Kona. If is, he wouldn't have the ball to show up. I wonder if he sits around thinking "if Chann can do it, so can I."

Not prosecuting it or defending it. Basically pointing out that without a lot more info, it would be a bit on the speculative side to say LA lied. Were there significant efforts to conserve water? Was enough done? Could more be done?

I don't know. Maybe RR has a pipeline to the guy in the bike shop basement who has all the records regarding changes to the irrigation system.

Outside of the "lying" issue, my personal feelings about water use of that magnitude (for even a large estate) is that the owner deserves to be vilified. If a majority of that water is going to irrigation they need to realize that there may be a wee thing in the news lately about climate change and rip out the fancy non-native stuff and look at xeriscaping.

What the water guzzling shows - once again - is that Armstrong only cares about himself.

I see LA as the perfect storm, where all the right factors either fell into place or were forced/bullied into position:

Fatherless son (maybe due to psychotic Mother)
Full blown internal anger, and need to 'fight' anything and everything
Surrounding pseudoFathers guiding LA in all the wrong directions
Raised in a doping environment with above average but not great talent
Realizing he won't 'win' and needs to dope to compete.
Forms a plan post cancer to not only dope but dope in every and any manner possible to have an edge over all the rest.
Encircled by so many lies, corrupt practices and payoffs that the status he has attained leaves him with no other decision but to live the lie forever.

Sad really. The guy probably just needed a Father and stable family. The real question is how does a guy post cancer dope...further risking his health that was once so tenuous? Also, where is his Father and what does he now say about all this?

If LA wasn't around there would still be dopers, no doubt. But, the extreme psychopathic expansion of his doping and lies into 'Cancer awareness' can never be paralleled. Different cyclists would have won or lost Tours and been caught, but they'd be like David M, Schumacher, Rebellion... we'd have been troubled for a while and then moved on.

LA is a completely different magnitude of dishonesty, hubris and embarrassment for cycling and the Oncological world. Shame on him.

NW

Really? Linda Armstrong is psychotic? How did you reach that conclusion?

Just interested, because if you're correct it may explain a lot of other things.

BTW: I agree with most of the rest of your conclusions.

Lance's mom is a pyscho?
That is a new one. Just like Velodude's "bad service/coffee" at Juan Pelota's.
At least it is not as old and tired as "Lance is a water guzzler".

Lots of desperation amongst the haters.
Maybe because the Lance Leaks from the Feds have all but dried up?
Like the Texas landscape. Parched.

Lance's water consumption is a drop in the bucket.
Maybe as much as 5 average families.
But Lance lives the Ultra Life. Lots of entertaining.
He can't ask his guests to hold their bladder/bowels until they get home can he?
Or maybe go over to Oklahoma to take a dump.
And it will take MILLIONS of Texan families to conserve water.
Millions of families. Not just Lance. Lance is doing his part.

And how about the Universities of Texas?
They use more water in a half hour than Lance does in a year.
Texan Government too.
We all need to conserve. Not just Texans btw.

"Lance's pyscho mom raised a water guzzling boy who can't make coffee"
Sure could run and bike and swim though.
And raise awareness.
Have an "Effect" if you will.
It all comes out in the wash lol.
But run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full.
You can save up to 1,000 gallons a month

Ya, the Land of the Free.

I asked why he was defending a fraud - do I not have the freedom to ask?

You have the freedom to ask any argumentative loaded question that you want! Then, you have the freedom to quibble over what you really meant, or didn't mean! Then (even better) others have the freedom to criticize what you write! Freedom is good!

Does Lance's water usage in Texas relate to doping or cycling, or is this just a "Why people who already think Lance is a doper and a cheat should hate him even more" topic?

That is good to know - I might just make use of that.

I don't hate Lance, so you should directly ask those that you didn't identify that question.

However - the thread is about Lance, and as I have just discovered there is something called 'freedom' (& its good) - then those people should be free to highlight it.

Maybe in your mind - you never heard of devil's advocate?

And that is news?

A "devil's advocate" is a person who takes a position in an argument that they do not necessarily agree with. You however, never act as a devil's advocate for the side opposite of Armstrong, so once again, you convince nobody that you are the dispassionate observer you claim to be. You are quite dishonest, but everyone knows that.
