There are gaping holes all over his story, but they know that a police investigation less than a week old is not going to be watertight and know the burden of proof and onus is on the cops, not them.

Yes the burden of proof is on the cop - because he is also under investigation for murder, South Africa has one moral crisis problem thats for sure.

Can it get any more redunculous? The biggest crime case in South African history and the lead cop is facing murder charges? Ultimately though I couldn't give a rats, Bothas problems have nothing to do with Oscars prosecution, the two are entirely separate and Botha will no doubt be relieved.

Side note, anytime I heard this guy talk in interviews during the olympics and all the hype the media played up for this guy. I always thought to myself, gheez, this guy is an arrogant *** that thinks he is entitled to special treatment and attention for his disability/physical issues. I know that sounds kind of bad, but listen to the guy talk and his interviews during this time.

Embarrassingly, since I use cortisol in animal hair as a measure of long-term stress in wildlife, it never occurred to me that such a measure from the blood could be used in a criminal case. I think yours is a brilliant idea, horsinabout, as the entire case hinges on whether Reena entered the bathroom in a relaxed "I just woke up to take a pee" state, or whether she fled there in terror. The two hormonal states could not be more different. Could have detected adrenaline directly as well.

Since she has since been buried it is too late to do anything like this, if they didn't already.

An interesting idea, but I'm not sure it could be used in this case. First of all in OPs version of events she might be scared when he yelled there was an intruder though that might be a stretch. More importantly she did not die instantly. I'm not sure you can distinguish between stress she felt before the she got shot and after.

it seems so much evidence rests on forensics that hasn't been done yet, so how can they even decide so soon about whether it should be granted or not? i mean, if it's shown by the trajectory of bullets that he obviously had his prothesis (pl) on, would that not show he lied in his statement?

As far as I am concerned what he did, no matter who he thought was inside the toilet, and even if it had turned out to be an intruder inside the toilet, was totally inexcusable and he deserves to spend the rest of his life locked up. Everyday until he dies there.

I would say that there is still quite a bit of "grey" areas. We'll probably have to hear more from those witnesses and see what the ballistic experts have to say.

If he gets away with anything less than murder his lawyers have done extremely well.

Apart from motive i don't see what is holding this case up, aprt from incompetent policemen and very brilliant defence lawyers.

This is however only the bail proceedings case...
