The Mighty Thor will strike

His form looks ok to me. Though he missed on very important build up races like catalunya and MSR due to the illness. Hope to see him at a good level on sunday.

Quick Step are going to do a three up break with Boonen, Chavanel, and Terpstra just like the old days of Mapei with Museeuw, Tafi & Bontempi and Boonen will cruise across the line first.

Nice!

That would be Bortolami.

Showing my age now.......at least somebody knows what I mean :)

Lefevre has got to be thinking that if they upped the tempo at the right point in the race it could be a 3 up ttt into the velodrome.

Is it worth putting money on?

if it does(really unlikely) they should let home boy chavanel win otherwise I will be really ****ed.

Paris-Roubaix is a Flemish race, Boonen is riding on home turf. Boonen will not give away an opportunity to equal the record of Roger de Vlaeminck.

Chavanel is from Châtellerault, sorry but that's not a home boy ;)

Even if he is marked, Boonen will have a lot less trouble than Cancellara in a similar situation. I guess that what he said really sums up how good his riding has been this year : "I don't need to drop anyone".

I think Fabian was the only one on the same level with Tom (at least the same, I think he would have dropped him in Flanders) this year for the cobbled monuments, well maybe except for certain guys that are in QS anyway...

What is it about asking what people think will happen that compels them to write what they hope will happen? Obviously if we're going on hopes, it would probably be;

Caruut
Boonen
Pozzato
Ballan
Chavanel

Oh lord. You're gone get worked up over this?!

Most predictions done by people contains a bit of hope what will happen. I predict EBH will solo win, knowing that it is highly unlikely, but not totally unlikely. However, I'm confident EBH will do a good result at P-R.

I wouldn't say it's less likely than Van Summeren's win last year. But to win in P-R with limited experience (he has only ridden it once) is almost impossible. I'd say his best chance is if everyone are riding really defensively and there's a 10 man sprint or so at the velodrome. Anyway, my prediction:

1. Boonen
2. Pozzato
3. Hushovd
4. Ballan
5. EBH

Sky has a good team and when EBH has the legs and smells victory, he can be absolutely brutal. An attack from a small group in the end and he can timetrial all by himself to the finish. Question is of course if he will have any energy left after 230-240k. He hasn't showed yet that he can be strong after that distance, but in Flandern he showed decent form, and I think P-R suits him better. Maybe it will turn for him this weekend. But sure, to solo win he needs to be damn strong, more likely that if he wins he wins a sprint from a smaller group.

Well, everyone would like their one of their favoured riders to win with a 20km solo. I for one would be very happy if Amets Txurruka claims his maiden victory on Sunday. Just don't see the point in coming on to a prediction thread, call you hopes a "prediction", and then getting offended when people question whether it's a prediction at all.

The dictionary said:
Verb

predict (third-person singular simple present predicts, present participle predicting, simple past and past participle predicted)

(transitive) To state, or make something known in advance, especially using inference or special knowledge.
(transitive) To believe or hold to be true in advance]

Sorry if it bothered you, can't see that it is such a big thing really.

Please. Look at the last names who have won monuments. Zaugg, Gerrans, Nuyens, Van Summeren. I'm sure you're one of those who would have ridiculed anyone who predicted either of those victories. Based on that experience, it could be argued that it's more likely that an outsider will win than a favorite. How boring would this thread be if everyone went with the exact same prediction?

The fact is that the favorites don't always win. Just because someone predicts a different outcome than the statistically most likely doesn't mean that their prediction is useless. I don't think EBH will win either, but it's not impossible by any means...
