The new GOAT stopped only by the great French hope

Much more interesting than Isaac Del Toro's sidestory

Right away you rate his decision making superior to Remco because he doesn't show up to races that don't suit him.
Just like Remco, Seixas already starting with an outstanding, TT baseline very young.
He just put @15 guys on notice. Del Toro with a decent ride, but it's going to take more than above average to beat powerful Paul.
Seixas will be under immediate pressure from UAE because they put 3 riders in good position after the TT.
Like I said before, a great quality of Seixas is he does his own work, guy has the complete package, The guy makes having few strong teammates less of a liability He can counter almost anything that top @20 riders can throw at him.
Ineos, Bora also will have to really push him. Will UAE flip the script and make Del Toro work for others who put time into him..
That would be a mistake. Del Toro is still a vastly superior climber and puncheur to McNulty and Grosschartner and this route is hard enough to produce differences every day.

A demolition job today against a field packed with most of the best riders in the tiers below Tadej and Jonas.

If he is as convincing as this in the hardest stages this week then with his development arc you have to start thinking seriously about him finishing 2nd in the Tour this year at 19.

Haven’t seen the race myself but nice result. Expect 100km of ITT in the TDF next year
That's a possible take...... we may see two decent length TTs in the Tour next year.
I won't be so optimistic to say 100km overall but 60km-80km would be a start.

A new French hope is indeed exciting, as well as being a burden to bear. But having a star cyclist from Mexico is also great sauce.

This is my thinking now. I'm even wondering if he can threat Pogacar. I know he got crushed in SB, but we still have 3 months until the Tour and his trajectory is going up really fast.

It's Seixas turn to race intelligently today as the three UAEs, plus Ayuso-Skjelmose combo would surely be planning an ambush.

Lisan al gaib. Like it or not, this is how the perfect cyclist looks like.

I agree with most. A few observations:

Rog doesn't stomp anymore, great champion, he will call it quit after this season. The great Primoz wouldn't get beat up like that on a perfect course for him.

Remco was mentioned: I watched the Guimard podcast a couple of days ago and I agree that the ravine near-death experience set him back at the worst possible time, when he was developing to be the butterfly that we all wanted. I would argue that Evenepoel is not as good as he was before that accident and he had more crashes since...

Off topic, but I love Remco, back to Paul.

What a beatdown! Paul Seixas is the deliverer (yes I watched that movie - again - I do it every year).

Now we wait and see what he can do against Teddy Merckx on their next meeting. To the question: who can beat Pogacar in LBL? I will bet my dollar on Paul Seixas...

Not the most representative TT route yesterday. The Seixas we saw in the Algarve TT is not beating Pogacar, and I'm not convinced that that gap is closed more easily than the one on the climbs.

wow, the French side of twitter is sharping the knives. it's haters vs lovers. it's hardcore philistines hating Seixas' (and Decathlon's) success and mega performance, against fans finally having a French prodige looking forward to see him win big.
but dear oh dear, the haters and revving up big time

Paul was great, no doubt.
But I think he's on his way to establish himself as an alien pretty soon, so otherworldy things are expected of him. And, somehow, he's still exceeding our expectations of what an elite 19 year old should be able to do.
Agreed and, hey, mine was not a jab at Roglic in the first post, but simple acknowledgment that his level is not what it used to be in the relative economy of the dominance of Seixas' performance.

What is their reason for hating Seixas??
Jealous because of his talent? Suspicions about his performance?

We know that part of the reason we haven't had a French Tour winner is because they have such a strict anti doping stance.

You mean there is actually a contingent of French fans who already don't like Seixas? C'est du masochisme pur et simple.

Seems like the narrative I so often hear "even french people hate french people" isn't completely wrong.

bon, on pouvait s'attendre ca.
it's not FDJ, au contraire, it's those guys at Decathlon, he's too strong, he's too talented, his numbers are high, he's not suffering nor has a story of overcoming bad luck and suffering and winning for us all, like the Jesus-like Pinot did. he spends too much time on altitude seeing his gf once is months.
if Pog is doped than he is too, look at his numbers. there's a small pocket of Seixas haters and it won't end anytime soon.

My guess is that if he continues with crushing performances in this Izulia, he might be the only rider to pose a real threat to Pog at Liege. I'm curious.

Oh mon Dieu. Si typique. How can you complain though when finally a diamond in the rough is found? And about one so young?

I'm really excited to see how he does this week. At the moment I'm sceptical that he'll challenge Pogi this year, but this week will give us a clearer idea. He's a ridiculous talent, either way. I thought del Toro was going to be the next top rider, but Paul seems to be better already and he's three years younger.
