I'm really excited to see how he does this week. At the moment I'm sceptical that he'll challenge Pogi this year, but this week will give us a clearer idea. He's a ridiculous talent, either way. I thought del Toro was going to be the next top rider, but Paul seems to be better already and he's three years younger.
I don't know about challenging Pog, but you have to ask youself how much more dominant in the Izulia tt yesterday would Pog have been had he ridden it? It seems Paul did a monster time, so I think Pog could have been maybe 5-6 secs faster, also considering the shortness of the race. Given the type of parcours, it's not a given even Remco would have gone faster. The big deal will to see now what he can do on the climbs in this Basque tour. If he's head and shoulders above del Toro or even just decidedly better, then he may at least make things difficult for Pog at Liege.

Still no announcement about a GT?
nope, unless I need to send my google to the repair shop.

I guess they have the door slightly ajar on potential Vuelta participation, but want to monitor him closely as the season progresses to see how his system handles the increased intensity.

I think the team will take a decision based on his condition after Itzulia, the point is to check if he has handled the 6 days of racing very well. Last year after dauphiné he was exhausted. But I think they will communicate externaly only after LBL, as foreseen.
I personally tend to think he will do the Tour if all the lights are green. But I don't mind if he do the vuelta or no GT, I could control my frustration 😏

Yeah TdF would be ideal, also because presumably it would mean he is handling the stress of his spring races incredibly well.

I'm sure that the Tour has been planned for a very long time already, and I don't see why he shouldn't do it.

He could win the Vuelta if he rides it this year. Tour , best he'll end up is second. Don't think a rider should attempt to win back to back GT's until at least turning 25. Will be quite hard on the body.

But yeah, he will most probably ride the Tour. Riccitello's starting the Vuelta.

Yeah, of course he shouldn't do Tour + Vuelta this year, if that's what you're alluding to?

Also, the best case scenario for anyone not named Pogacar is finishing second, so that logic should apply to everyone then. A logic I don't agree with. Finishing third behind Pogacar and Vingegaard is a bigger accomplishment than winning the Vuelta. Add to that the fact that he could be the one to break the Pogacar/Vingegaard 1-2 Tour dominance from the past six years.
