I'm really excited to see how he does this week. At the moment I'm sceptical that he'll challenge Pogi this year, but this week will give us a clearer idea. He's a ridiculous talent, either way. I thought del Toro was going to be the next top rider, but Paul seems to be better already and he's three years younger.
I don't know about challenging Pog, but you have to ask youself how much more dominant in the Izulia tt yesterday would Pog have been had he ridden it? It seems Paul did a monster time, so I think Pog could have been maybe 5-6 secs faster, also considering the shortness of the race. Given the type of parcours, it's not a given even Remco would have gone faster. The big deal will to see now what he can do on the climbs in this Basque tour. If he's head and shoulders above del Toro or even just decidedly better, then he may at least make things difficult for Pog at Liege.

Still no announcement about a GT?
I think the team will take a decision based on his condition after Itzulia, the point is to check if he has handled the 6 days of racing very well. Last year after dauphiné he was exhausted. But I think they will communicate externaly only after LBL, as foreseen.
I personally tend to think he will do the Tour if all the lights are green. But I don't mind if he do the vuelta or no GT, I could control my frustration 😏

Yeah TdF would be ideal, also because presumably it would mean he is handling the stress of his spring races incredibly well.

I'm sure that the Tour has been planned for a very long time already, and I don't see why he shouldn't do it.
He could win the Vuelta if he rides it this year. Tour , best he'll end up is second. Don't think a rider should attempt to win back to back GT's until at least turning 25. Will be quite hard on the body.

But yeah, he will most probably ride the Tour. Riccitello's starting the Vuelta.

Yeah, of course he shouldn't do Tour + Vuelta this year, if that's what you're alluding to?

Also, the best case scenario for anyone not named Pogacar is finishing second, so that logic should apply to everyone then. A logic I don't agree with. Finishing third behind Pogacar and Vingegaard is a bigger accomplishment than winning the Vuelta. Add to that the fact that he could be the one to break the Pogacar/Vingegaard 1-2 Tour dominance from the past six years.

Earlier in the year I would have agreed but given he has a high chance of a podium and a stage win I think he should go for it. You never know when you could have a career ending crash so take your opportunities when you have them
Agree with that. He's only 19 and the Tour is madness without the French media pressure as well.

Oh mon Dieu. Si typique. How can you complain though when finally a diamond in the rough is found? And about one so young?

among them "on enteint tout". people turning the tv off, as if it was the 12th time Seixas wins alone against a WT peloton. some French people are so mad
"ridicule et honteux". wow some ppl on the Gruppetto forum are getting angry

That would be a mistake. Del Toro is still a vastly superior climber and puncheur to McNulty and Grosschartner and this route is hard enough to produce differences every day.
Del Toro and company now paying a huge price for stupid, stupid tactics, nobody from UAE left in chase and Seixas dropping all like dirty diapers and he was under zero pressure all day. Did he have to wonder if someone from UAE would have a great day? He never had to ask the question because they were either behind him or within a few meters, Bora racing like some 3rd tier conti squad. Seixas deserves this, what a complete joke. He should stop in next days for breakfast, haircut, photos with fans, family.. He has embarrassed his competitors from the first @18 minutes of the first day and now this.. He has @1.8 to climb and has put almost a minute into these turtles

Absolutely insane today, the first time in years someone has looked like they could dethrone Pogacar.

If ASO start putting in more TTs because of him too I will firmly believe he’s been sent to Earth to save cycling.

No reason to avoid the Tour if you are that good
He should surely race! He looks like he is just learning race tactics and is dusting the recognized elite, he dropped half the TDF hopefuls yesterday and now today, impressive without even trying.
He can figure out what to do with Tadej and Jonas in July.
Now he is on a flatter surface and gap is opening up as he revisiting his TT flying solo speed

Knowing that he was happy to gift Prodhomme a win before he himself had notched his first pro win, I wonder if there's part of him that would rather have had Del Toro, Lipowitz, Roglic et al in better form to really test himself rather than winning everything without breaking a sweat.

without breaking a sweat.... I'd say he's pushing very hard

He is only burying himself because he is young, doesn't have experience, just like yesterday " I didn't expect to win by so much "..he is going to drill it for another day or two, might relax after he is ten minutes up on second. If I was him I would demand that Del Toro and Bora brothers wash and dry his bike or he will teach them a lesson

apparently already the sole occupant of the space between Jonas and the peloton - and might not be far behind the Dane

And when he finally dethrones Teddy, who is gonna stop him?
