A new announcement? That they accept the fact that they're (not yet) a Top-15 team? Why is that wrist slit worthy?
Pro-Conti status isn't terrible you know.... Vacansoleil have done pretty well![]()

Moondance said:Well, Pro-Conti status is still pro...
And while I agree that it would be desirous to have a big-money team in Australia, and competing in all the top races, Pegasus shouldn't get ProTeam (or whatever the UCI calls it these days) just on that fact alone.
Surely you would agree that Pegasus' roster so far is not worthy of the ProTeam status?

Sydney21 said:I am a huge Australian cycling fan but Pegasus never deserve a spot on the Pro Tour. White needed to sign a couple of big leaders earlier in the year so that he could build a team that could ACTUALLY WIN RACES. Pegasus is relying on the two Robbies to win them races and name me a race where there won't be faster sprinters than those guys. White also missed out on signing young riders young like Matthews.
If you expect to make it to the pro tour and ride 3 grand tours then you have to have at least one rider who can climb. WOOHOO for Trent Lowe, Christian Knees and Thomas Rohregger. Next year theyll have to sign Gossy and Porte or a couple of similar riders so that they can actually win races and feature on terrain which isnt pan flat. I am 100% aware of the fact that you cant just throw money at everyone and expect them to join but out of the number of riders the transferred this season I can't help but think that Chris White isn't the best man for the job. Good Luck to them in what they ride this year but big signings will need to be made before they can even dream of Pro tour. A year as Pro-Conti wont do them any harm.

and the way this whole thing has been talked up, certainly imho is very un-australian. it has the real potential to make us look like fools.

Decent showing at the worlds, Dennis could be the quiet achiever. I hope to see him in some decent TT's next season.Jono L. said:Rohan Dennis...
Tuarts said:On a side note, it could prove to be a financial master-stroke and a shrewd bit of planning. What we really don't need is the Aussie version of the Sky team, all bling and no substance (). So CW does two bits of clever media manipulation. 1) he announces Pegasus going for PT. Makes a lot more noise and better headlines than "New Aussie Team trying for P-CT: They'll probably get it too". 2) Puts it out there that he has the full $10mill sponsorship lined up. With the squad looking spartan (that's not a pun) and quite ordinary, that'll plant a few seeds in riders minds for next time negotiations have come. As well as the stories about being interested in Cancellara and Hushovd, there'll be some decent (better than McEwen) riders who'll be likely to be enticed to Pegasus with the money being bandied about. All conjecture atm, time will tell all but certainly food for thought. Still waiting on an actual press conference and new media releases from the Pegasus camp...

Dennis was good but for me Durbridge was more impressive. He rode about a second slower than Phinney and he did it in the wet! But Matthews is a faster finisher than those two. I said they should have signed him before the WC and before he was signed by Rabo. Hopefully they can get there hands on leigh Howard who is almost as young and probably a bit faster for next year.
Probing young talents into the big time is what Pegasus (I am sick of calling them this) will be about. More australians will have their time in the big time and I think it would of been a good move for matthews to go ride with them as he will get some good experience but ride in an english speaking team full of his country men. Because they will also ride in some smaller races that would be another good point for the idea of him going to pegasus. BUt rabo is still a very good choice for matthews.Ferminal said:I don't know why you would want to see young talent going to a new and inexperienced team. Much safer at teams like Rabo and THR.
Tuarts said:Having one of the big "up and comers" in the side would generate a lot more publicity but they'll just have to do with Dennis and the Fly V boys. Do you have a link for those quotes ACF?
