Interesting comments from Chris White

“It’s irrelevant [to the application]. After the 15th of October, any riders added don’t give you ProTour points. It’s tough,” he says flatly. “If Richie Porte had been an option, or Cancellara got on board, or Michael Rogers had seen us as relevant, [there was a] very, very good chance that only one of those guys would have been the difference for us to be in the ProTour.” “There’s three more guys I’d like to add,” says White, “but to go to 25 as a Pro Continental team could be... somewhat problematic.”

Seems some friction between Rogers and White.

I can totally understand Rogers. Going to Pegasus at this point in time is nothing less than charity for any rider with ambitions. Even if they had managed to sneak into the PT it would be a step down for anyone who has a solid place in another PT team. They are not in a position to support anyone with high hopes.

The only type of riders they could possibly get is exactly what they have gotten, Old riders that have passed their prime, domestiques that are interested in riding for their own results or riders that are no longer needed by their former team.

That description kinda fits Rogers?

Kind of harsh on a guy who has just had the most successful year of his career.

Perhaps, but Rogers has little chance of achieving more than he did this year, and winning a 2.HC event against two waning American riders hardly sends shockwaves through the cycling world.

He would have got paid handily for joining pegasus, and would have done a good service for the future of Australian cycling. That is probably a better legacy than he will stamp being a second tier rider at Sky in 2011.

So who are the top tier stage racers at Sky? Löfkvist and Wiggins aren't stronger than Rogers... he'll probably get to ride the same races as he did at HTC, and he'll be team leader in them.

Winner in Andalucia 5th in the Worlds TT, Leader in Romandie and finished on the podium, strong performance at Crit International. Pretty solid in TA too.

He will be the strongest stage racer in Sky, and they don't have a proven GT rider in the 2011 squad, so after EBH he's probably the second best rider in the squad.

Rogers was very impressive at M-S-R and looked the strongest rider on the final climb after 280k or whatever it was. He's a classy rider and will pick up valuable ranking points in the shorter stage races for Sky.

Pegasus may get him in a couple of years or so though if he fancies riding for an all Aussie team.

ooof, that is a pretty harsh statement.

It might be harsh but I think it's true. I don't think you can expect to get top riders when half your squad are unproven riders that come straight from conti level. A top rider with ambitions of winning would want to have top level support and Pegasus can't offer that at the moment.

Not really, he's still a force in week long races and a formidable asset to a team in GT's helping a leader. Going to Pegasus would have been stupid for him, like someone else said ... riders like him can't afford to be charitable for the sake helping a startup Australian team. Robbie can.

Tutur has said that pegasus will probably be invited to the tdu and that langkawi, oman and qatar are also looking good for invites.

this kinda makes it all worth while.

as for the rogers thing, IMO the team should be more disappointed in not getting talented youngsters like roe and matthews. This team is not looking very exciting as far as im concerned.

Chris White has said that Pegasus already has a race plan of 250 days already and that they have invites already to most the northern classics!:)
Trouble is, after saying they were pretty sure and had been told they were pretty certain to get a pro tour place, do you believe he has invites to all the northern classics?

Trouble I have is Im finding it a bit hard to take anything he says seriously at the moment.

I think there's no problem for the nothern classics , McEwen , Tuft , Knees, Traksel , Cornu and Hunter are well know and with Redant they have someone that everboby in cycling respected . For the small stage races they have McEwen and Hunter for the sprints and Tuft for the time trial , Ok they have nowbody for the GT but except Schleck ,Contador( ?) , Nibali , Basso and Menchov who can win a GT ? After all it's only the winner that counts

Its a team comparable with Milram this year - and then I am very, very generous. They wouldn't add anything to a GT.

Well, the classics usually have something like 25 teams so I don't think it's that unlikely. They would have competition from the belgian and french pro conti teams but with something like 7 wild cards up for grabs it's not implausible that they have have gotten some invites.

Also I suspect that he's counting all races including things like E3-prijs and Dwaars door Vlaanderen etc and those non-PT-races will probably be even easier to get into.
