So. Worlds is rated higher than a Giro win for you?
Difficult question. I think the Worlds RR just about edges out the Giro, which would be 4th in my ranking.
Doesn't it depend on the parcours of the Worlds? No way that Cavendish winning in Copenhagen was more impressive and better than any Giro win.

That was up there with a Giro........ flat stage

Epic! Just epic win for Sagan.

The best part about his win is how he open the gap on the downhill section after the cobble climb.

He won the race not only because his monster power attack on that climb but also because of his unmatched bike handling skills demonstrated on the downhill section.

I'm ecstatic beyond anyones imagination and I'm not ashamed to admit that I had tears of joy in my eyes after he crossed the finish line.

He is the most deserving rider in today's peloton and anyone else who had the opportunity to meet him in person would agree that he is also very nice and humble person regardless of his occasional showmanship.

I'm so happy for him and all his fans.

This. For several reasons, I've been out of cycling a bit more than usual, but Peter winning this has certainly reinvigorated my love of cycling. It's just great to see an individual of such talent come out on top.

Same for me. In the last few years I have had a difficult time following the sport I grew up watching, loving and doing in starting back in the early eighties.

Sagan seems to be refreshingly human. He rides with some passion and panache, and seems different from the current crop of number obsessed cycling robots.

Church.

And doesn't he look debonnaire in rainbows?

Sagan is the world champion with the worst supporting cast since...Vainsteins?

Hushovd also won with two team-mates (EBH, Kristoff) but those were stronger riders than Sagan had, although Kristoff wasn't at the level he is now.

Costa only had 2 teammates the year he won. I want to say it was Machado and Cardoso, because if I recall right Paulinho was out injuried.

Yes, Costa had the same number of teammates, but they were stronger riders.

Well since some considered this a "bad" year for him, that means next year he'll do even better. He'll win PR and Flanders at least.

MSR-RvV-PR-LBL-1st stage of TdF (yellow jersey)-Repeat WCRR.

It's happening.

Haven't had a chance to watch the race yet, but I'm very glad he won. After a season of so many second places it's good he won something big. Also glad he won as the stripes will be in action next year, unlike with Costa and Kwiatkowski. Hopefully he has a superb 2016 in the rainbow stripes.

Will he have any good teammates next season? Tinkoff doesn't seem to be signing many riders. He'll need them as he's going to be marked even more next season.

You forget the scientifically proven curse of the rainbow jersey. We can count him out for next season.

I am not worried about this curse. Sagan without this rock (not winning the big one) will be unstoppable. Give him one decent partner who can survive to the end and they win a lot together. With GVA they would win it all. :)

Congratulations. Finally broke free of the damned leeches. That's going to teach everyone a lesson: wheelsucking him from now on won't necessarily prevent him from winning. Australia was disgraceful. Norway was disgraceful. Totally deserved.

Matthews is not made for the cobbles (hard to follow Sagan on that type of climb) and except for Hayman, Gerrans and Haussler the rest of the team was not that strong. Kristoff had a useful foil in EBH and the sprint showed he did not have the legs to attack like in RVV. Both teams had strong contenders for the win and the team numbers/strength to bring about the sprint, which was their smartest option.
Degenkolb's ride to track Stybar was impressive, but he completely emptied himself and ended up nowhere- at least the other two came in the top 4.
I think no one expected Sagan to attack solo, nor as strongly as that. In the end his legs were just superior.

Great post, totally agree. On the bold bit I'd like to hear more from Sagan's detractors this description doesn't fit with the image of a spitter or misogynist. With professional sports people as long as they seem decent human beings off the bike I am not concerned with minor faults or loss of judgement. Who are we to judge all human beings who without exception are all by definition imperfect in varying degrees. I think some set the bar for acceptable behaviour unrealistically high and just because posters are regarded as having very high knowledge of cycling does make their opinions infallible.
