Scenario one: He "stays" with her...
- implicated in her doping
- no longer able to race the lucrative races
- reduced income
- he has no skills other than cycling to support anyone, let alone a new family

Scenario two: He "dumps" her...
- clearly disapproves of her doping, with the hard line he is taking
- better "anti-doping" standing in UCI's / race owner's eyes and possibly allowed to race the lucrative races
- improved income
- unsure on Italian law, but she should get some support either legally or because he actually loves her and is simply making a career move

UCI don't care what happens, as long as it LOOKS LIKE something right / positive is happening. Blood passport is a classic example. Here, Ricco is saying "I don't tolerate drugs any more", in a very public way.

well, if it is a publicity stunt, it is certainly a dumb one considering his base...it won't go down too well in extremely catholic, family orientated Italy I would imagine...dumping the mother of your kid because she is a doper when you are known as one of the most famous dopers (the new pantani)...won't go down there too well with Italian fans I would imagine...but way to go Ricco! Nope.. of all the dopers, admitted, denied, reformed, cheated again, Ricco is by far the biggest tool cycling has seen in the last ten years...

I do not particularly like the guy myself. But would be interested in a list of the things he has done / said that make him the biggest tool in cycling for the past decade. Or are you just jumping on the "everyone hates Ricco" bandwagon?

Oh, B.S. Compared to those who continue to lie to the public about their dope use Ricco is nothing. At least he got caught. At least people can pretend that the "bad" guys are not getting away with it. Let's not even bring that megatool Armstrong and all the damage he has done to cycling into the picture. What about Valverde? He continues to race and win despite incontrovertible evidence of guilt. Talk about a giant FU to the sport and the fans.

Umm...here are a few things big ring...he gets caught doping...denies it...then leaves the mother of his child because she got caught doping while he is still on doping suspension and says he won't go back to her or the kid until she is proven innocent?...is that is not enough? in my book, this guy is dumb as wood...****ing hypocrite as well and thoroughly....

What if SHE was the one who was using CERA first and turned RR on to it, but has simply avoided being caught until now? One could imagine RR actually NOT having thrown her under the bus when he was caught ... he endeavours to protect her, thinks he has, serves his ban - continues to be a boor - but intends to return to competition w/o risking a lifetime ban and so trains cleanly.

The obvious answer is that he is the bad influence on her and that he corrupted her...but in Italy, the women riders know just as much about doping as the men when they're all at the elite level. Just sayin...

Not to go on a tangent here, but Basso, Chicken and Vino is a recipe for success. My mother used to make this dish when I grew up called Coq au Vin.

Was this split solely because Vania Rossi tested positive, or was this relationship on thin ice for a while, and Ricco had a convenient excuse to give her the flick? I know what Ricco said, but what Ricco said and what was the really the case behind the scenes is another.

The amount hypocritical BS on here is astounding, some people here like to lead the anti-doping crusade, and yet their favourite riders are dopers.
