Indeed, it was only a few weeks ago that Froome found himself briefly at the centre of a drugs storm.
His employment of a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for corticosteroids at the Tour of Romandie was leaked to a French newspaper with doubts raised as to whether the UCI, the sport’s governing body, has followed its own procedures properly before allowing Froome to use the drug to treat a chest infection before he then won the race.
UCI said Froome has not broken any rules but the timing of the leak was curious and his fiancee, Michelle Cound, raged at the UCI and WADA on Twitter for the apparent misunderstanding. The outspoken Cound has now taken herself off the social media network in a recent interview the couple gave to Paul Kimmage, the Irish former Tour rider-turned sports writer, they admitted the episode had reduced both of them to tears.
