With different kinds of riders (not sure I would call all of them racers).

Just a bunch of looking around and tempo (reminds me of Cat.4).
We all KNEW the attacks would happen in the last KM.
I think of the favs, Ryder has been the only one to attack from farther out.

OOO!!! Podium girls! :p

Yeh, the way they sat on Ryder is a mess. Jrod never touches the wind until he nears the line. Well, someone will show him the door tomorrow and I'll call that Grande!

I know yall want de gendt to win, but consider that Pistrollero also put money on De gend, as i recall it was 20 euros or so at 300-1, so this place might become pretty unbearable

I kinda want Thomas to win more now, that's some bet

Good analysis here:

See, this is what happens when you soft-pedal for three weeks instead of taking time when you can. People who haven't been as good as you are still in the thick of it and can surprise thanks to a smart tactical move, and furthermore, you don't have any stages left to correct your mistake.

Are you kidding? Well I suppose he could have gone with 900 m to go instead of 800. Or... or... he could have tried something earlier on the climb. Because he needed to put a minute on Hesjedal, and he sure as hell wasn't going to do it in 900 m.

Purito might have been thinking back to that Vuelta stage where he attacked Nibali with 1k to go and ended up getting 40 seconds and the red for a day

He could have followed Scarponi and then attacked him, he might be 30 seconds or more better off at least.
If he could have, he would have. This is not black or white.

In 2011 in Grenoble, De Gendt put 3'30" into Hesjedal. That was 42km though, and Milan will be just 30km.

Which is 50ish sec per 10 k so he should be around 2:30

Wasn't 2004 Zomegnan's first Giro in charge? Fans quickly let him know what they thought of that route and things changed quickly. Hopefully Acquarone is less of a milquetoast than we thought and future Giri can be a bit less anæmic.

We had to wait for the last road stage for this Giro to deliver the goods.
Truly epic stage, even if it was a long wait on the Stelvio for things to kick off.
Purito? Just knew he was going to mug Hesjedal, Scarponi and in the process, Cav, by about a single point. (well done Messrs Ferrari and Pozzato)
Ryder rode a bit dull, imo. By TT definition, Rodriguez was the guy under the most pressure, yet the Canadian did all the graft and paid the price.
He'll still take it away tomorrow, though, even if Jaochim gets to keep the red.

I soo want De Gendt to put out a monter performance in the ITT and win this. That would teach them a lesson.

....Hesjedal hesitated, but he did a good job in the end

Yes, on both counts.

Do you think that if it had been Hesjedal who went away like that rather than Scarponi that he wouldn't have been able to follow? His only interest was in keeping the jersey, not in winning the overall.

De Gendt did a great time trial in the Tour last year, but he 'only' took a little over a minute on Fränk Schleck in 42km, it's not likely he'll take almost 2 minutes on Hesjedal in a 30km TT. I think he can take a minute on Hesjedal, but not more.
