Was it any more fluky than any other win from a small break?

There are no Canadians that can contend in either men's RR or TT so I think other reasons for selection were considered (a career send-off for Woods, for example).
It wasn't a small break tbh, but he definitely was the smallest name at that point in that break.

Why would they choose Houle? Woods is a rider who has consistently shown he can win at WT level for years.
Houle said that there was a chance for him to be lined up to support Gee, but the COC decided to bring a second (or first) leader in Woods instead.

In the end, I guess it won't make much of a difference. Neither of them looks likely to be much of a factor in a race like that.

Bernal will be replaced by Buitrago, as Ineos apparently has not given him permission to do the Olympics.
Surprising, I thought Ineos was all about the Olympics. Why do they otherwise have someone like Viviani on their squad. Or does the Italian cycling federation pay his salary?

Australian team for the Olympics

Men are Matthews, Plapp and Clarke. Should have had Groves instead of Clarke. Plapp for the ITT.
Women are Brown and Roseman-Gannon and Hanson. Brown for the ITT.

Was there some rule the road team picks also had to compete as track team ?

Ethan Hayter might make some sense, but Anna Morris ?? who has never ridden a world tour level race stage, pcs isn't necessarily so reliable on lower level race appearances which maybe one offs, but not exactly sure what the thinking is there, and why didnt they chuck her in nationals if she was their pick 🤔

So, Denmark are bringing, among others:

Emma and Mikkel Norsgaard Bjerg for the road.
Julie and Lasse Norman Leth for the track.
I don't think there are going to be any married couples for the MTB...

He said after defending his national title:
As for the rest of the season, I have a week off, I've been riding a lot lately, I'm at 54 race days, so I feel like I need to take a break. Then I can get back to the preparation with renewed enthusiasm, a period that I love. After the break, I'm going back to Andorra for an altitude training camp and then the Olympics.

Wonder if Vanthourenhout is already having doubts of selecting WVA for the Olympics. Could've selected Philipsen or De Lie as second leader.
