Thanks!
I see a parallel with MvdP there.. he also used to 'ride like an idiot', but as he got older, he got a lot smarter and learned to dose his efforts. Tadej is coming up to that age now... And they're friends. So I think your hope is not in vain.Agree this time I hope Pogacar and his team try to temper him not to ride like an idiot. Maybe his history and knowing he has the Giro in his legs could force him to pull his head in.
It was Tim’s label, but very apt so I borrowed it . It’s definitely fun following riders of this calibre. But the thing for Pog is he can’t get ahead and of himself - first he needs to get through LBL unscathed and then the Giro preserving as much energy as possible. It won’t be easy for him to curtail his natural instincts to attack.I see a parallel with MvdP there.. he also used to 'ride like an idiot', but as he got older, he got a lot smarter and learned to dose his efforts. (I probably know what you mean by 'like an idiot', but it sounds a bit harsh. And lets admit, it is fun watching guys that strong ride like that. Sure, it can cost 'em some pretty big wins, but without that mindset, would we have ever seen a 2019 AGR for example?)
Not sure if it's all the cold weather gear but that may be the monster that ate Tadej Pogacar.

I'm simply saying that if someone has an all time great performance, it's perfectly possible for someone else to be great and still lose. Last year MvdP was obviously phenomenal in every one day race he aimed for, yet in the Ronde he was dropped like a stone by Pogacar. Does it mean he was worse in the Ronde than in all those other races? No, he was still the same guy, riding in the same shape, having a great performance. Pogacar being even better doesn't change that.It just makes no sense for Pogačar to lose 1‘40“ in a TT if he‘s in top condition. If that is him being „great“, then Vingegaard could have late stage cancer and still drop him on the Tourmalet because the difference between the two of them would be massive. If late career Contador dropped 1‘40“ to Froome in that TT that would have to mean Contador wasn‘t great, right?
Like i said, we just need to look to Pogacar statements on his interview after the Tour when he talked about the TT.Or how much of the gap was down to injury/bad day/bike change. I don't think there's basis for saying all of it was.
If he can stay on his bike it could be a good season for him.I'll try to fill the void. -
Pogacar will win all races he is a 100 to 1 favorite in, and in spectacular fashion.
Hyped yet?
The question is: If we exclude crashes, will we really have a race tomorrow? For me it is very clear that Pogi will smoke them all. Less than a minute gap is a loss for Pogacar and I'm not kidding. Not at all.
Big race coming up and it is Vingegaard-stans invaded.
Focus should be on LBL and the race tomorrow. What will happen. Can MVDP beat him? Who knows.
And you are genuinely surprised people aren't discussing this? If anything that's a sign that this forum hasn't lost it's mind (yet). Not at all.

I have moved a load of debate about the last coupe of Tours de France into a separate thread.
Create an exclusive thread for pog fans and filter out the ones who are not comfortable with it.I have moved a load of debate about the last coupe of Tours de France into a separate thread.
Thank you indeed! Pls can we all have that discussion there for anyone who wanne entertain that there. Think it will solve alot of tension and unnecessary problems and ppl not constantly getting it forced down the throat inside this particular thread only...I have moved a load of debate about the last coupe of Tours de France into a separate thread.
Im stoked. Monuments are always big im also stoked to see how Vdp fares towards Pogacar in Liege since i suspect he hold and saved himself to Liege - a bit how much i have no idea and not even if he did, a podium of him would even impress me so thats intriguing to see also how Pogacar will fare himself nothing is guarenteed whatever has been done in the past. Weather forecast i do believe was rainy just hoping no big crashes happen to anyone.I am stoked for this race tomorrow to see how pogi and the great mou perform. I do have to work unfortunately and cannot hover over the proceedings of the race.
This part puzzles me—the details I want are there in the Ardennes hills on Sunday. I don’t need much more beforehand. The only other details I might use are riders’ injury/illness reports and the weather forecast. If he can stay on his bike it could be a good season for him.
If anyone has any actual details about pogi that would be great.
Pogacar fans create invisible enemies. I said many times on this forum that Pogacar is the best all rounder rider of the peloton. I even said that one hour ago in another thread. This thread is going wild but I can understand, we are talking about the GOAT of cycling. Tomorrow is the beginning of a truly remarkable season.
Triple crown with Liege and Lombardia.
Yes the goat title was decided 50 years ago. Some of us are fortunate enough to be old as *** and to have seen Eddy in action. So maybe we can instead use the term MVP for the current best rider.Pogacar fans create invisible enemies. I said many times on this forum that Pogacar is the best all rounder rider of the peloton. Now, this discussion about the GOAT really annoys me, but it's not because it's in Pogacar's thread, or because it's Pogacar. It would annoy me a lot if that happens in the thread of the other top riders.
This conversation about the "GOAT" annoys me seriously in the general of the sports, because people don't know the real meaning of the word "GOAT".
Now, i'm going to post here the definition of "GOAT".
"The greatest of all time : the most accomplished and successful individual in the history of a particular sport or category of performance or activity".
This is the definition of "GOAT". What annoys me is that people think "GOAT" means the best rider/sportsman at the moment. For god's sake, "GOAT" doesn't mean that!
This happens in all of sports.
I get very annoyed when the "bron fans" start to call lebron james as the "GOAT" when he isn't and will never be the "GOAT" of NBA.
Here is another example. I am a big fan of Nikola Jokic. He is clearly the best NBA player in the world since 2 years ago, but i don't see nobody call him "GOAT" because he isn't, and it would be ridiculous if i called him that.
I think cycling is a sport where the GOAT is well accepted by eveybody. Eddy Merckx.
Its Lebron or Jordan, both have incredible arguments, but when it comes to being most successfull is Russell who is no way in hell GOAT.Pogacar fans create invisible enemies. Not the case: the first diversion into discussion of the 2023 tour in the Liege thread was at 19:40 yesterday, the earliest of the posts that I hived off from this thread was timestamped about 5 hours before that. And there were many others previously, but I had to start from somewhere. So the thread should be held hostage to a handful of new posters who are ready to escalate whenever they don't get their "quality of banter" within this thread?
The previous discussion did not start because others rushed to start it here, it originated in the Liège thread.
You mean like mountain goat? This thread is going wild but I can understand, we are talking about the GOAT of cycling. Tomorrow is the beginning of a truly remarkable season.

Teddy Merckx is the goat.If Pogacar can somehow arrest his defeats to Vingegaard at the TdF he can start to be considered the GOAT (assuming Vingegaard gets back to his pre crash level). Not before. Of course Eddy Merckx is indisputably the GOAT - by a wide margin.
