Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

Yesterday Pogacar wanted answers, he got them, and it cost him one second. That's not much to pay. Now he knows, now we know; Vingegaard is super strong. It's better to find out now than in the Alps and lose, who knows, minutes.

What I want to see is a more mature Pogacar, who marks Vingo, and uses his team to bridge a gap if Vingegaard attacks. No more crazy stuff. Go after time bonuses, show up at the final ITT with a minute lead. Win.

Learn the lessons from the past, Teddy Merckx: don't repeat 1975 over and over...

Someone should say to Pogacar. If you are not dropped, you will win the Tour so just follow Vingegaard and you are only allowed to attack inside the last km. If (a big if) Vingegaard can't drop Pogacar he will lose more 15 seconds at least so Pogacar will have a 1:30 minutes before the TT.

Following a flying Vingo is not an easy feat. Pog has never really dropped him without paying the price later; Pog wins the battle but Vingo always wins the war.

If Vingo has good legs then he will drop Pog but I don't think Vingo has the team to completely isolate Pog so Pog can rely on his team to minimise time losses. I also don't think Vingo can [shouldn't be able to] put out big attacks across many stages.

I love the way Pog races but he can't win against Vingo in this way. Save the crowd-pleasing stuff for the one-day races but ride tactically at the Tour.

Regardless, for the third year in a row Pogacar will not win racing the way he has been. Too much spent in the first week, and too many impatient attacks. If Pogacar showed some patience like Vingegaard this would be a demolition job.
Yeah, this is not really true though is it. Remember who lit up the first week last year? It was Vingegaard, not Pogacar.

I think this clash of styles is sometimes a bit overstated by the press and cycling followers. They both play to their strengths. Pogi tries to attack on more explosive stages, Vingegaard attacks on the harder stages. And they both try to exploit their opponent's perceived weakness. Last year Pogi had a poor(ish) preparation, so Vingo tried to destroy him in the first week. This year it was the other way around.

The only explanation he attacedk at Pas de Payrol instead at the end of the stage if that he fears last week of Vingegaard and wanted more time in an stage that is supossed to suit him perfectly.

Poggi has a super attack, as Contador had, maybe better, and dont need an step climb for that. and as well he can hold that attack longer than Contador, who can get a good rent in 2 km, keep the rent 2 km more, bur start falling down later. But longer doesnt mean always, and Vingegaard has that resilience, he is going to keep the pace and going better and better with the Kms. In that is more similar to Froome, no so explosives riders, but if there si an attack they can go solo for a long time.

The problem for Vingegaard is to drop Pogacar. He has a good attack, but Pogacar is going to respond always if they are similar. He need to make the stage hard with his team (for Froome was the same) and to use the end of a long climb to insist with 2 or 3 attack and drop him. But once he drop him, Pogacar can lose minutes quite easy.

The rent is low, and Vin¡gegaard could put in the final ITT one minute if he finish well after the mountains, but there is a rent and he could try to support on his team mates as much as possible to defend, not to attack, and to use his powerfull attack to defend as well, and dont care too much of others riders.

He can try to allie with Remco if the situaction is good, and that is possible.

But anyway Pogacar said he trained especifically to longer climbs this year. We show him impressing at Catalunya and as well at the Giro, although no strong rivals, so I cant wait to see how he manage now in the high mountains...but anyway Vibgegaard is a point above than him....he has just Jorgesson for make it really hard, but maybe is enough.

Maybe it is a stupid question but there is a chance of riders getting sick (on purpose) with covid before the Tour to avoid getting sick during the Tour?
Very much doubt it. Viruses are tricky and sometimes recovery is delayed or complicated. There can also be a large dip in performance as a result. It would be playing with fire in a huge way with your performance and with your health

He won the Giro already and he is the strongest just chill and enjoy. Pure entertainment what a beast
The Giro he can win any year with 10min advantage. Its the Tour against Vingegaard that matters. And theoretically he was on the upper side there with his rivals injuries. But we see where the trajectory is going and Pogacar racing like an unguided missile certainly doesn’t help…

What matters is what you win on your palmares lol. And I wouldnt Pogacar to change for a bit its why he is the best in the world and so strong its entertainment atleast why i watch.

I dont disagree dude but thinking about it would you want him to be a robot with that power would it be better for us ?
I want him, as I said yesterday already, to be boring for one week if that means he wins this.

The double was last done 1998. This is important. In general, its ofc his attitude and way of riding that makes me root for him. I just don’t think it does him any good right now and I see the momentum slipping towards Vingegaard.
