I must say one thing tho, Sep seems to be even better on the cobbles then phinney so those 2 could be the next boonen and canc in a few years, unless the monster growing inside the OPQS starts showing all his potential ofc :p

:confused:Trentin?

Lance wouldn't put up with such niceness. Giving up 12 minutes

LeMond got 3rd in his first GT.

Wtf are you talking about, phinney is not a GT contender obviously.

Way too-hyped media darling. Easy to dislike these kinds of guys, IMO. Especially the American media takes this crap to the extreme.

So what are you going to say if he becomes the top tier rider many of us expect out of him? He's obviously never going to win a tour, but he's going to win A TON of races in his career.

I agree the media hype makes me want to dislike him but he makes it really hard with these great performances and his fighting spirit.

I just remembered some similarities between his performance at the Giro and his performance at the amateur race Flèche du Sud in 2010. There he also blitzed the prologue and crashed hard in one of the following races, IIRC he even posted a picture of his helmet which had broken in two pieces. It would be interesting to hear his take on these similarities

Don't really know what your talking about. He's mentioned when he gets results and also with the good, the bad and the ugly. Although the Gazzetta stand up announcer was rambling on about Phinney as the new Lance. I guess if you look through the hour glass of one's nation of origin? Fodder for the those who don't know the sport?? Which is true anytime, any rider.

As far as attention, Rule #1: When you win, take GC in a grand tour, you will get a mention. This Eurosport guy with Sean Kelly (I keep fogetting his name which is deserved) was giving Phinney the suttle backhand I thought the other day when J.J. Heado caused the crash and he did some kind of guilt by association garbage when it was another stupid crash Phinney was unfortunately behind.

Question: Has anyone who has worn the leader's jersey in a GT gone on to finish last overall (the lanterne rouge position) in the same race? Obviously plenty of leader's jersey wearers have dropped out, but that's not my question.

I ask because, given how many sprinters will drop out, Phinney looks likely to pull off this feat in this year's Giro.

I cannot help but think all of this "I have a hard time liking him because__________" should really be followed by "I'm xenophobic."

A ride like that should be respected by everyone.

I knew something was wrong when it was announced Phinney had retired. Those are words I do not expect to ever hear unless he has a major injury. Was really glad to see when he came up behind the leaders that this was not the case.

I hope Phinney becomes BMC's Paris Roubaix leader after today's epic ride!

Me too, would love to see Phinney get a chance to lead in one of the big ones. He clearly has the form and the motivation right now.

In fact his epic ride in TA made me take an avatar of him, I was getting bored with the Phil one and was just waiting for someone to do a ride like his. And it looks like we're going to be seeing much more of him in the classics this season. :D

Glad you changed it, it didn't suit you. :)

I wasn't a fan due to all the hype, but he comes across as a very humble and enthusiastic guy. And he had the maturity to recognise he hadn't work enough in the first few months of his pro career. I just don't want him to be the leader at Roubaix because I still have that small, very small hope in Hushovd. Phinney has time on his side.
Go Phinney! Just try to crash less often :)
