what the **** is that crap

Yep - so many people backing Sagan don't seem to have read the rule book. He can win, but it definitely doesn't suit him anything like last year.

Anyhow, we're about to start

11,10,9 etc on the line for the peloton, so no real point busting guts here, just get in the first 3 or 4.

No point engaging with these pocket philosophers who think their particular brand of atomised nihilist wisdom is worth sharing with the world.

Yeah, right, because objecting to nationalism, arguably the most irrational, anti-human and objectionable political philosophy in existence, is only possible on the baiss of 'atomised nihilism'.

Hmm no, he didn't look very good today in those climbs.

He was near the front when it mattered.

I'd be more concerned with his sprinting if I were a fan.

Slightly faster than Kwiatkowski won't butter many parsnips.

Sagan ~ 50 points clear of Cav now, but increasing evidence that he is not the same guy as last year in the sprints.

Interesting rest of the week - Cav really needs to get it back to parity by the end of Friday.

Wednesday will be a key stage. 45 points for the winner and Sagan might be the only contender up there.

Purer sprinters have been climbing worse than I had expected, but really Marseille stage is not that difficult for them to contest

Yep - be interesting to see if Cav still have the anti-biotics overhand - would have to be pretty bad to stop him going for Wednesday given his Giro and National Championship climbing.

Quite some people were saying the same about stage 2.

If they don't get up that close enough to contest 12km later, they really are struggling.

Sagan said today for Eurosport that injuries from the 1st stage limited him in the sprint. Not sure if it is true or he is just making up excuses.

Check the rest of the stage. Lot of up and down all day. I say it's 50/50.

I'd be amazed if Griepel doesn't make it, and Cav will only fail if he's genuinely affected by crash/anti-biotics - it's not harder than some of the long climb stages he's won, or something like the Cap Frehel stage in 2011.

Right, 2009. Easily the best climbing version of Cavendish ever, but pretty irrelevant in 2013 :)

Right, adding some extra conditions. Survived this one with ease some weeks ago.

Nope, this has been Cav's best climbing year, at least on a year to date basis.

Survived MSR fine but lacked teammates at the end. Attacking on hills at the 3 days of de-panne. Strong in the Giro & Nationals.

Clearly off right at the moment thought, so hopefully he's feeling a little better on Wednesday.

Have you actually changed the size ratio to make Wednesday look harder? The Steephill profile, linked direct from the Tour official site, gives a much more realistic idea. And then look at the specific climbs and there's nothing out of the ordinary.
