Tough call to leave out Viviani but I think it's probably the right one. Hopefully that will give him more motivation (like it did today) to come back next year in better form and he will be selected again. The last two years have been somewhat lackluster for him. Sky don't want to take a sprinter for top 10's or top3's, they are at the level where they will only see value in taking a sprinter if he can guarantee a stage win which they cant necessarily count on Viviani for.

I'm 99% sure Lopez is going to the TDF having seen the Giro line-up.

Also whats this about Moscon?

I don't like Viviani that much but he did win an olympic gold last year which is very impressive.

Where did you find that about Moscon? If it is true then that is not at all in any way acceptable. Really poor from him, and I was beginning to like him. Why is it always Reza that is racially abused? There really need to be more black riders in the peloton to expel this racism.
You answered your own question, I'm afraid :(
Really, this shameful behavior should be punished.

He's not the only black rider in the peloton. Maybe he gets into a lot more heated stuff than the other black riders. People tend to say the dumbest *** when they're angry, and maybe they would've yelled something else if he'd been white.

Doesn't make it ok in any way, but stuff that's yelled by angry people should get less attention in general.

And more black riders would probably only make the problem come up more frequent, with more irritation from those who consider themselves victim, and those who think it's mostly an exaggerated non-issue.

Have to disagree. The lack of black riders in the peloton exacerbates the problem of racism. Black riders in the peloton are still very rare. There is only really Kudus, Grmay, Teklehaimanot and Reza out of the more high profile riders. If there were more, then there would be less racism as it is less rare and out of place to see a black man riding. Just like in other sports where we have seen this transition.

Proportionally, maybe. But you still see a lot of crap even in football where there's plenty of black players running around. I think it would have to get worse before it gets better.

Yes, angry people say silly things when angry BUT to say a racist term has to mean that at some level you are racist. If you're not racist then why would that word, phrase or thought even be in your head?

This doesn't look good... and I liked Moscon. Reza being racially abused again, I assume it gets more heated in the sprints since the likes of Kudus, Teklehaimanot etc. haven't been (at least not publicly).

If Sky had anything about them, they would sack him. Sure, it would be a blow to lose a talented rider, and another team would likely pick him up after the fuss died down. But there's a good opportunity for them to send a strong and much needed message, and at least begin to restore something of their highly damaged reputation.

No, it doesn't. It just means means that you're willing to deal out low blows in order to hurt someone. Racist slurs are very effective if you want to hurt someone of colour.

Why would the word be in your head? Come on, if I want to hurt someone, the first thing I think of is how to get under the other guys' skin (no pun intended). Skin colour and sexuality are the first targets that come to mind.

That is surely the definition of a racist

Using soemone's race against them ...to belittle them

Re: Team Sky Discussion thread

He should be pulled from the race by Sky and as his team has admitted that he is guilty he should be suspended pending a investigation by UCI. Sky allowing him to continue to race after publicly admitting that he did in fact do what he's accused of tells everyone that their success in this race is more important than respecting the sport and their competitors.

For me you are only a racist if you mean what you say. You don't have to be a racist to understand that using a racist slur is hurtful.
