So Bernal abandoned, G lost 13, Froome lost 23. Tough day
Yeah, almost lost in all the drama today. Terrible performances by both Thomas and Froome again. I don't believe they'll be ready for the Tour at all. Froome shouldn't even ride it.

It's going from bad to worse.

Honestly think it might be more down to the COVID break and lack of training than this is all he can do, but it's a really bad look.

Both. Does look worse for G, and I think it would logically indicate that for Froome it's not all about that injury

Agree that it does not look great. However if I was to hazard a guess Thomas may be ridding to a plan. Certainly today’s comments by Rasch suggested Thomas was saving himself for tomorrow (presumably to get into a break). I guess time will tell.

The Ineos domestiques seem to be performing just fine. It's the leaders (except Bernal) who are struggling.

If Bernal futher struggles with his back problem they may well elevate Sivakov to protected rider.

So I wasn't expecting that. No Birtish rider at all for the Tour de France team, no Geraint and no Froome. The Movistar patended "the three amigos" strategy is no more.

The Brit amigos are out of shape but if you look closely they are given another chance while Carapaz was demoted to gregario and basically stripped of any chance to double up on a Grand Tour win this year.

Yes Carapaz seems to be the worst off here, unless he will also be a protected rider.

If he has recovered from his calf injury in Poland he's actually a dangerous option for them, he's on of the few who can go toe to toe with Roglic on the punchy uphill finishes and he's good in the high mountains.

Thomas has always been a team player, they probably had a longbtalk with him and gave him 2 options. To be a train wagon who works early on at the Tour, or to be the team leader at the Giro.

Carapaz can perfectly be leader in the Vuelta since I don't think Froome will be good enough to fight for the victory.

This forum will explode if G wins the Giro, Bernal wins the Tour and Froome wins the Vuelta.

More likely that none win their GT.

I don't understand Ineos's reasoning here. Carapaz looks more likely to win the Giro than Thomas at this point, so it seems Ineos is gambling that Carapaz will make the difference between Bernal's winning the Tour and not. Maybe exclusively as a dom, maybe as another card to play, maybe as a backup if Bernal falters. Gambling away a Giro win, IMO, just to improve their chances of a Tour win.

If the team really thought Thomas and Froome were good enough to win another GT, why in the world wouldn't they want their support in the Tour, extra cards to play, backup for Bernal's back? Either one could go on to the other GTs, anyway, if all they did in the Tour was dom duty.

Not sure about this decision, as likely such team will lack some much needed experience. On the other hand, they likely admitted it is not just about managing the peak form differently, they are in trouble, regarding the current form. Anyway, they likely selected the riders that are in best shape ATM. From this point of view they should offer more resistance to TJV.

We'll see, Tour is just around the corner.
