Why do you think that you are the only poster on this board who posts his own tweets on here without further comment?
Why does it matter?

1. The Tweets are not a big deal IMO. My opinions of Jumbo have zero basis from anything which might have been posted in Twitter.
2. I have never been on Twitter and don't care. Its doesn't represent the real world.
3. This forum can be guilty of group-think. Alternative views which might disrupt the default opinions should be welcomed.

Lets hope the merger doesn't happen. I hate to think what that means for the team's ability to keep the best riders and maintain their clear clinic advantage. I also find it peculiar that it appears some who decried the Skyneos years of dominance defend Jumbo-Visma (not accusing you)? I don't find this entertaining. If Vingo rode with Contador's panache I might think differently. But I find him very hard to warm to.

Too many teams are fragile and I would guess that the many meetings that happened before this public disclosure mean that it's likely a done deal.
Don't see room for redundant skill sets and big big egos and personalities under one big circus tent..
The UCI is a joke and they don't care about any continuity of product and don't care about cycling fans, the entire business model is run by desperados..lot's of things are similar to the way that PGA golf basically imploded

Was Laporte always this good? I'd always pegged him as a rider who could scrape a classics podium if race conditions fell his way. Certainly not a rider who was favored to win.

Is it the "Jumbo" effect?
He had decentish results in Cofidis where the guys are not known for being world beaters... when he came to Jumbo, you could see almost immediately that he went to a higher level (like many others). So the Jumbo effect plays a part... but he is still a borderline 2nd/3rd tier classics rider.

Inter-national races are often a lottery, and the European championship has very little prestige. Nice win, but who cares??!

Why is Jumbo having such an hard time finding a new main sponsor? To the point that a merge with another team is on the table? On paper, they seem like the dream team to throw your money at so what is the problem? Could it be that they are a doping scandal waiting to happen and no one wants to touch them with a ten-foot pole?

Giving Kuss the Vuelta victory was a part of their sponsor-seeking strategy. US is a large market and Kuss being killed by his two teammates wouldn't sell well. Angliru pictures are circulating over the Internet but the final Vuelta outcome calmed down angry people.

I'm not sure it's a scandal, but Hessmann's likely doping violation coming either end of this year or next and another rider having a heart attack spread all over the media can't be helping Plugge persuade potential sponsors to sign-up beyond the middle east.

also, Jumbo, despite winning EVERYTHING and getting a lot of exposure, will leave in any case, preferably at the end of 2023 if they find a sponsor. that's wild for the sponsor of a team that has a season any team would dream about and never did
Let me explain to you then. Jumbo are a Dutch supermarket chain, privately owned by the Van Eerd family. Their only market is the Netherlands, and a few stores in Belgium. The Van Eerd family have had a difficult year: father Van Eerd died, and Van Eerd junior is in jail for money laundering. This family was the driving force behind sports sponsorship. In fact it's Van Eerd junior's involvement in the shady world of auto racing that got him into trouble in the first place.

From a purely commercial standpoint it didn't make much sense to sponsor an international cycling team with little appeal for the Dutch audience. So now that these two men are out of the picture, the responsible people on the board have basically said it's just a waste of money. No connection to doping at all.

As has been brought up before, it’s like when HTC left despite huge team success from 2008-2011. Cav brought it up in his book that HTC didn’t want to pay more money when they had all the perks for a cheaper price.

I'm almost okay with Lance serving as a clean pacemaker (I mean who the feck knows with pacemakers?), but otherwise I wouldn't trust Lance and Bruyneel as far as I could throw them. Especially with your offspring.

Are these dudes seriously just testing the waters and making sure everything is forgiven and forgotten now?

why is this in the Jumbo thread
in any case they're not testing the water. people who like them will keep liking them. people who don't will do the same.
I'd have a chat with Bruyneel, he knows stuff. Lance probably is all about himself and boring/lotta hubris

Not sure why this is in the Jumbo thread either, but let us just say it may be a call to war from former/doped to the gills riders? :tearsofjoy:

This is in the thread because I am so amused by how Brunyel is trolling Jumbo lately :joycat: :joycat: :joycat:

I said up thread before that I had started enjoying Brunyel cause he's not worse than Jumbo right now. And when he's trolling Jumbo I am really amused. (Also a bit amused when Rasmussen does it, but he doesn't have that trolling capacity.):wineglass:

And he seems to have a renaissance lately where people do refer to him etc. Maybe people have the same reaction as me; since Jumbo is so bad now Brunyel suddenly sounds sympathic
