Interesting comments from former Sky-man Ian Boswell on guys going to Jumbo-Visma for less money then they could have got at Sky/Ineos. Which again raises the question of why did Jumbo-Visma have seemingly such problems getting a sponsor (and with DSM getting PostNL too)?

Iwan Spekenbrink is probably just a more astute businessman. His team has been underperforming for years but he still knows how to sell it. And now with Jakobsen they have a Dutch guy leading the charge in the Tour, which may have been more interesting for PostNL than sponsoring Jonas Vingegaard or Wout van Aert.

A lot of teams in cycling are in fact linked to a nationality. Which makes sense, national pride may often be quite toxic but it is a good foundation for a sports team. It brings sponsors along, as it did for this team back in 2014 when Belkin screwed them over and some Dutch sponsors and stakeholders decided to save them. If it wasn't felt that this was a quintessentially Dutch team they wouldn't have done so. And this time around it was quite similar, for all of Plugge's ambitions and plans to be this huge international team, it's still the Dutch Pon Holding who stepped up when nobody else would.

Fair point. I was more thinking about cities or metropolitan areas, like most sports leagues. Then you can have a name that reflects something historical or unique to that city.

I clocked that too, but from the context, I wasn't certain who Boswell was referring to. Perhaps DVB and Tulett. I guess it could also be Dennis who turned down a more lucrative offer from INEOS. Regardless of who it was, I was struck by how favorably Boswell spoke about TJV beyond its grand tour success this year.

Lots said about the dudes..but if you watching Jumbo Visma has another destroyer by the name of Fem van Empel she is super consistent and great to watch.. Hope that the new sponsorship does as much or more for her..and when she finishes, does the traditional ,zip up the jersey and sit up straight so the front of the jersey is clear for the cameras. Most of the seasons cyclocross events are available full length in North America and Mexico.. Fun to watch

And Robert showing some class, that just shows on why we love cycling soo much. There are a lot of cycling fans now out there, that could cope with the idea of Primož winning the Tour. This was a dream inspiring a lot of Slovenians in the past couple of years. Now i feel it's safe to assume this has become a more universal dream, uniting cycling fans alike. In this day and age it's magic to have that.

Now, the Dutch team sign him into the coaching staff in a continuous push to seek innovation.

"Patrick has been an important sparring partner for me and for the other coaches since 2022. It works very well to add a smart and critical eye," team DS Merijn Zeeman said in a press release. "The past two years this worked out very well and I am happy that Patrick will now also formally be part of our coaching staff." The Australian is said to be one of the people behind the change of tactics seen throughout the 2022 season from the Dutch team, which often saw groups of two or three riders attack together and take off to dominant victories throughout the season.

It's a pretty similar team to this year. Kruijswijk instead of Kelderman. Tratnik instead of Van Hooydonck. Jorgenson instead of Van Aert. On paper maybe even slightly better in the mountains.

His team rate Kruijswijk higher than the outside world does.

Kruijswijk is not anymore what he was in his prime....what a mistake. They should go with kelderman instead of Kruijswijk.

At least jorgenson is a good adition.

I also think bennot is overrated.

I think this would be the best team for the Tour.

For the Tour, I think the experienced diesel riders are worth a lot. So Vingegaard, Kuss, Kelderman, Kruijswijk, Jorgenson, Van Baarle, Gesink, Laporte. A team that can work hard all day, every day.

They must have some data about Kruijsvijk, like his numbers are better than Klederman, or value his experience. He was real strong in 2016-19 but since then only crashes and no results. Bizarre

Kelderman or Kruijswijk really isn't that much of a difference. Last year Kruijswijk was pretty strong in the Tour. He's had mostly crashes and injuries since then.

I'd pick Kruijswijk as well, but I wouldn't have him as the only link between Jorgenson and Kuss.

For the Tour, I think the experienced diesel riders are worth a lot. So Vingegaard, Kuss, Kelderman, Kruijswijk, Jorgenson, Van Baarle, Gesink, Laporte. A team that can work hard all day, every day.

I think Tratnik can be pretty useful. Once he found his legs in the Vuelta he was also really strong. They have to replace two riders (Van Aert and Van Hooydonck) with pretty specific capabilities, and now it seems like they're spreading these qualities over multiple riders.
