Anyone who Picks Evans can ready call themselves a Fanboy - and not so smart at the same time :p

PS when is the date for full team announcements ?

I didn't pick Cadel but I am still a fanboy - it was a hard decision.:(

So did I. My 1000 point rider is of course Nibali which is the only one at that price that has a decent chance of improving.

I had him in my draft as well, but IMHO there are one or two others at 1k plus who could be worth it.

My first draft was pretty awful so I'm working on a second. Not going with ex dopers in case I've got the rules wrong.

;)

I dont think we should be talking about any specific riders/pics ...

Edit: Unless it is a technical questions regarding some riders AKA dopers etc

That's totally up to the posters. If they want to throw their picks out to help someone, then why not let them?

I agree, if posters want to discuss riders then they should be able to, who knows maybe there is some people who will try and mislead others. I have almost totally picked my team so it is not going to sway me anyway.

Well, Nibali didn't win a single race this year and he scored half as many points as in 2010. It's not crazy to think he has a good chance of improving his score.

he would prob only improve a few hundred, you would be crazy to take that risk. its easir to use 3 riders at 300 points to gain 100-150 each than 1 guy to gain 300-400.

basso will prolly have a good shot at giro but dunno who else is riding, nibs will do the tour but face competition from conti and evens and schlecks. so where will nib gain points?? a spectacular aVtack all the way win from ghisallo at lombardia2012?? where??

While this might be true, you're forgetting the fact that you could include two 0 point guys as well if you pick, for instance, Nibali instead of picking three 300 pointers.

Well, I managed to delete my 65 rider shortlist! Can remember most of them but a few obscure ones will no doubt slip by now!

with the tour in mind, I dislike his potential for big points. Thus I agree that basso is the wiser pick.

See, this kind of debate is what makes me think that we're going to have diverse teams no matter what size they are etc. Sure some lessons were learned this year on how to pick 'em, but those lessons weren't really 'pick obvious picks', they were more, at least for me:

1) pick more neo-pros - I passed over Matthews, Degenkolb et al thinking that neo-pros were too risky. Look how wrong I was - but this year's crop is anything but obvious in terms of who you should pick and who's risky, so really it's just made me pay more attention to neo-pros, and given me - and I imagine several other people - about 30 more picks than I looked at last year, all of which are relative gambles. I can't imagine everyone picking the same ones.

2) expensive picks are risky - coulda told you that in December last year. Now that the dust has settled on my team, Cunego = great, Ricco = awful, Kreuziger, Boonen = disappointing. That doesn't mean that I'm gonna drop more expensive picks, just be more cautious. Can't imagine that will change things too much for next year.

3) do research on what guys have done historically - if this were last year, I woulda gone for a guy like Thibaut Pinot because I heard of/saw him do well this year, he was on the radar. Looking a little deeper because I know a bit more about how CQ works, I'd be more cautious about him because there are tons of other young guys that have less than 30% of his points that could easily explode as well, ones who I haven't heard as much about. He's almost a sure bet to do well, but how much better? Again, see point 1 on increasing possible picks and increasing diversity in teams.

4) get bargains. That's the obvious one, it was obvious to me last year, and you'll see that if you look at my team. The mid-expensive ones didn't pay out (Gusev, Ballan), but the cheaper ones (Vande Velde, Schumacher) did so nicely. This might lessen diversity. But I feel it's more than counterbalanced by 1 and 3.

We will see when teams are submitted, but I don't imagine teams being much more similar, but rather the opposite.

Ha very good. If he scores a over 700 points if think you should have a mandatory Ian bibby AV for a year.

Okay, seems fair. Who is Ian Bibby? I will go look on CQ ranking now.

EDIT: Racing for Endura, not sure that 700 points is even possible at that level. Now I will go look to see who the highest scoring rider on a Continental team was this year.
