Okay, seems fair. Who is Ian Bibby? I will go look on CQ ranking now.

EDIT: Racing for Endura, not sure that 700 points is even possible at that level. Now I will go look to see who the highest scoring rider on a Continental team was this year.

Ok 700 points was a tad ambitious.

Haas @ 295?

Edit:

Van Rensburg 294
Gregor Gazvoda of Perutnina Ptuj 293

It was actually Rebellin at Miche with 889 and he only did half the year. The one I was thinking of was second Rubiano Chavez who scored 488, but Baliani from the same team D'Angelo & Antenucci - Nippo was very close with 479. 700 is therefore possible but probably only on a Italian team as there is lots of opportunity in Italy.
Top list I think is
Rebellin 889
Rubiano Chavez 488
Baliani 479
Robert Vrecer 350
Nathan Haas 295
Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg 294 - had current list not 2011 so had him at 340 initially.
Gregor Gazvoda 293
Matthew Drujon 277
and I will leave it at that.

I do have a soft spot for Ian " the bibster" Bibby but its very unlikely he will even score 100 points. he will however instantly add street cred to anyone who puts him in there team.

Not on topic really but has anyone discussed or considered designing a CQ ranking champion AV for the champ to use throughout the year as a badge of honour you know. I would design it but wouldn't have a clue how to do it.

lol, I completely missed Mich and D'Angelo. Like you say, Italy has a feast of 2.1s and 1.1s which these teams are invited to.

@Midnight, indeed, no fun if you don't pick a few who you can strongly support.

I don't have any Continentals, if I did I would only pick them if they were very cheap, under 20 points or so.

That was my problem this year. I had a few continentals in my team.

Damn riders in my best draft have been scoring late points. Might have to come back to it closer to the submission date.

Cool to see a little bit of discussion as the thread has been quite dead the last few days. Though I guess that everyone wants to keep the bargains for themselves ;)

My first draft was decent with 33 riders and 7456 points, but my latest is 33 riders and 6133 points.. lol. There are so many cheap riders that I really want to include but not so many expensive ones.

Funny, my shortlist is 33 riders and 7456 points. And I recall another user mentioned this as their total amount of points used too!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do we have the same teams??

Maybe that other one was me? I don't remember. I highly doubt that we have the same teams, but who knows? :)

Oh maybe. Besides I also just checked my latest teams and the score was 7496, so I got muddled witht he numbers.

I am looking for honest advice from the forum: Janez Brajkovic, Jurgen Van Den Broeck or neither?

Maybe Brajkovic, I never really considered him. I'd put him at 750-800 with a max of around 1000 for next year. He can't win classics and is mediocre in GTs so he has to have a great season everywhere else to post big numbers. JVdB has a GT and maybe a strong stage race in him, with average results elsewhere. I'd put him maybe 800-850 with a max of 1000. Although maybe without Gilbert, Jurgen will have a real go in the Ardennes for himself.

But I would not follow my logic, as I am picking Anton who costs more and is probably in a similar scoring zone to those two.

Damn, I stumbled upon this competition by accident and I am hooked already;)
Both Brajkovic and V D Broeck is on my long list, but still undecided.
I think Janez will be the best bet if he focuses more on the races he is able to win (tough one week races). V D Broeck will provably again focus mainly on TDF and I doubt he will be able to win stages or be better than 7th - 8th overall.

Don't really fancy Brajkovic or VDB to be honest. Just can't see them improving by more than 150-200 points. Would want more than that. Been thinking about Anton, but don't think he'll ever seriously contend a GC so is 2-3 stage wins a year going to increase his points by that much?

I've got 24 guys picked now costing 4207, so I'm looking for a big name GC guy who can have a big year.

VDB was one of the better expensive riders, for me, now that you mention him. I'm just thinking about the upset caused to the past season by his crashing out of the Tour, and also the increased responsibility he'll have next year, with basically him and Greipel carrying the whole team.

i'm going pick some riders from my 2011 CQ team, among those who sucked of course, i hope they have a little bit of conscience not to let me down once more :)
Romain Sicard is the first in line ;)

It for sure will be interesting to see who people pick for their teams. There are quite a few riders in the 500-700 range that I could see getting picked by various teams.

But we'll probably also see some teams with one rider more expensive, and then quite a few cheaper ones.

Ya, there seems to not be that many good picks in that range. Then again that waas probably the case last year as well but last year many people chose expensive riders they liked eventhough they were often bad choices. It will be intersting to see if more people go towards good solid picks this year or if personal preference still makes for some odd choices.

Got a team of 7475 points (33 riders obviously), but so many riders that I wanted in had to be left out :(. Obviously not going to hand it in yet since I will probably change it, actually a few of my picks dont even have a team yet for next year.

Id say Janez or neither.

Jurgen seems to be mainly for the Tour. His performances before that this year werent great. He did the Vuelta and got good points for that and Vuelta is 4/5ths of Tour points. So if he comes say top 5 in Tour then thats going to be maybe 100-150 points more than his Vuelta this year.

And the Tour is of course not suited to him anyway next year so top 5 doesnt even seem likely.

The flip side is that with Gilbert gone he might do something in the Ardennes and of course as a attacker in the worlds, but I wouldnt count on it.

Janez is better as he has more options and he doesnt have a Vuelta in his points for the year like VDB and the Tour does suit him.

He could do well in a few 1 week races like PN, Romandie, 1 day races and of course the Tour.

Not someone I would go for, but someone I will be wary of if other people have him.

Edit; Isnt Janez doing the Giro though. If he is then thats a real shame, both for his palmares, and his cq game potential. Giro just doesnt suit him, but I hear Kreuziger wants to go for Tour this year and Martinelli wants 1 of his leaders at the Giro.

Jelle Vanendert.

Come to think about it: Jelle should be in a lot of CQ teams.
