I am happy to see this thread got it right when this started. Maybe Viviani and Kittel are in the general sense part of future competitors of these two, but the fact that they are both winning at their races means that they will continue to be rivals. I can't wait until they go head to head in a GT where there are different types of sprint finishes.

The ability these two have shown at such a young age terrifies me, and their proximity in age led me to create this thread. I think we're going to see a difference in skill sets as time goes on, but at the moment their sprinting ability is superb.

He unclipped, after Gavria tangled with him quite heavily, to avoid causing a massive crash the the sharp end of the sprint, some good bike handling skills in evidence too.

Yes, it just happened.
Things like this are a bigger problem for Ewan because he's just way lighter and smaller than the other sprinters.

What I see happening to Gaviria is the very lack of "racing"- as in more sprinting competition bulk- because he's making some silly errors like misjudging the length of his sprint power, the timing to jump ahead, and so on....

Ewan OTOH has been purely unlucky....

That was a light hip bump to the shoulder. That doesn't look like an unclip, it looks like his cleat was compromised (look at the overhead view). Good handling skills after that for sure.

I doubt Gav is slower on a mano a mano boulevard sprint, I really hope we at least get to see them go head to head sonon.

Definitely a smarter rider and blessed with quite the team for instances like today. Gaviria was really in pole position to win the stage, when his team established the move for him. Instead of facing those who'd convincingly beaten him in the previous stages, Gaviria basically only had to beat a puncheur, a lead-out man and a sprinter with no racing in his legs. I'm certain, Ewan would have won if it'd been a normal bunch sprint.

I think he is at the moment. Ewan is looking really quick.
I say that with no particular favourite of the two.
