Can anyone explain how head-to-head works, esp on betfair?

In particular if both riders get the same time, what happens with bet and lay?
e.g. Armstrong v Contador. If both got the same time, as you would expect, would I be paid off if I laid against one of them? Probably not sounds too easy.

Its the place that counts, the timedifference doesnt matter. Otherwise all bets in a bunchsprint would be cancelled ? So if you bet on Armstrong and he finishes 16th while Contador finishes 17th its a winner.
It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile: winning's winning
