Toby is currently on tramadol and carprofen to control the pain, but if he needs to go to the vet (or have me give him his usual bath), he's on the "cocktail" (is what the vet calls it) of gabapentin and trazodone just to keep him calm enough.

Whatever works, just keep Buddy away from jumping on the sofa for now!
You should see the barricade that I've constructed to keep him from jumping on the couch when we aren't looking! :D We also have some steps that are left from an old cat that we once had that will be by the couch from him to use once he's recovered.

Sounds most excellently DIY! :D

On that note it's incredibly challenging trying to keep animals still (or alternately exercise) after surgery and such because they simply can't grasp it's for their own good, like Toby's hind leg is messed up because he refused to exercise after MCL surgery. I tried everything I could think of (including taking him to a physical therapist) to get him to use the leg but nope, he just decided he won't use it anymore. So now the leg is all atrophied and just kinda there, not using it has caused all kinds of spinal contortion which probably causes Toby pain. If only Toby hadn't been so pigheaded he would probably be in much better shape now!

Anyhoo, hopefully you can keep Buddy still enough and fingers crossed he has more sense than Toby, keep us posted!

This looks like a fine product, even our pets will unfortunately most likely have trouble with stairs (or jumping on sofas) as they age. I've had to construct some ramps for Toby because he's not good on stairs anymore... whatever it take so our fuzzy ones can still get around!
When Belle first started having trouble with steps (only going down them), I bought a used folding ramp on craigslist, and put it on the steps going out the side door. When I showed it to her she was really excited, and ran up and down it at full speed several times. :)

I'm hoping that Buddy's current situation is due to an injury and not directly related to old dog yet. I'm going to try to keep him from jumping off of the couch from now on though since that is a pretty big jump for a little dog who is almost to old dog...no sense in pushing our luck.

Sorry I missed your post earlier, how's Buddy doing?

Definately better, but we may ned to extend the anti inflamatory meds?
Carprofen? (Stuff is pricey [at least at my vet's], but Toby is on it...)

Hopefully the injury isn't anything permanent, but if the carprofen helps for now I'd definitely use it and then gradually cut back and see how Buddy does without it. But don't listen to me, I am not a vet, I just play one on TV. :D

Of course they want to see him again before they will extend the carprofenso that's also another charge. The emergency vet aslo mentioned doing an image if things didn't improve. I suppose its not a bad idea just in case its a tumor or something causing the discomfort.

What kind of diagnostics were done on Buddy initially? I mean in regards to x-rays and labs... I think you had mentioned some blood work and presumably x-rays in the ER?

I just paid nearly $500 for Toby's latest vet visit because he got all rashy and itchy again, it was obvious he was just miserable and I can't have that. So I spent a shitload on antibiotics for his skin and an apparent ear infection (plus his usual pain meds)... the vet had mentioned seeing a veterinary dermatologist and that is where I had to cut her off. Toby is almost 16 years old and we're paying enough, I just want Toby to be comfortable now, (As much as I would love it I don't have the budget to take him to a specialist... maybe if he was 3 it would be worth pursuing, but almost 16? No way!)

No images at the emergency vet, palpation and blood work.

It's some of the hardest decisions to make, it's all about love and a positive outcome so it's really tough to say no to the vet, and the clinic price structure!! All those movies were the dog can talk, tell you what's wrong, where it hurts!!
I got good for nothing defective mutts and Roubaix lets out " you are cutting off my leg" yelp from getting toenails trimmed!! I should have named her Drama or Marshmallow or Creampuff.
I think I might get a Rottweiler just to have the canine equivalent of Marine Corps boot camp.. I would sell these beasts if I thought I get any takers!!!sun goes down and it gets cooler they come to the back door and really, no lie, they bark until I let them in and don't make a peep for the rest of night.

I will try to shampoo her and post a picture, she is not camera shy because she is too lazy to move, action shots are not her thing. If she auditioned for a dog food commercial it would be " lay on a cushion formula " or do you want your dog to be so inactive that you can't tell they are alive? Feed them this..but in all seriousness. I did just a few days of homework, YouTube and internet and ordered a powdered multi vitamin supplement and starting making dog food and I can see a difference. And a cool thing, is both dogs are happy and exciting at meal time.. Not that much work, 30-35 minutes every couple of weeks, and I am using those large disposable plastic food containers, like you get soup in from Chinese food, wash them out and reuse..feel semi proud of myself!!

I'm dying to know what you were trying to post, was it a picture of the now even more mysterious (and apparently invisible) Roubaix? :D

(Your post isn't showing anything. :()
Yes, had to reach out to the experts about using the photobucket, I get cookies like crazy and get emails from banner ads that are on sites I frequent and I don't want boner pills because I looked at cycling vacations, I will never buy Assos even if I win the lottery, I think life insurance is important but I don't need 2 emails a day to remind me from someone I didn't ask..
I am going to solve the smelly dog and spam problems and post Rooobz photo, she literally in the dog house because ate 2 bowls of cat food and like clockwork barfed in the living room.. My fault for thinking that cats would lick the bowl clean!!

Bobi not recognized as World's oldest dog - sceptical vets strip him of title!
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-stripped-of-record-as-worlds-oldest-ever-dog
The once record-breaking dog has been stripped of his title by Guinness World Records (GWR) after officials declared there was no proof he was as long in the tooth as his owners claimed.
Sceptics pointed out that although his age had been registered on Portugal’s national pet database, this was based on the owners’ self-certification and chipping pets had only begun in 2008. Genetic testing established that Bobi was old but not exactly how old.

So some buttplug feels good about robbing an old dog of pride and accomplishment!! What is wrong with people!!!
Roooby got shampooed w cold water and that knocked some time off her life according to her..don't know why dogs refuse to act like TV commercials..

Interesting update on Bobi's heartwarming story. Makes you wonder what the real age might be.
