Pogacar lost 1m6s last year in the ECC TT (24k) and 1m9s in the WCC TT (44k) to Evenepoel. He was not in top form yet but he did win Lombardia 2 weeks later. On the other hand i don't think Evenepoel was ever in top form either in 2021 or at least not like this year. I would say it's unlikely to overtake him but not to see him on a straight part. But it might depend on whether Evenepoel is actually recovered from the Vuelta to begin with.

Looking to the future my outsider is Magnus Sheffield - He could sneak into the top 5.
He's certainly one to watch. Difficult to rate though. I think he will end up not far from the podium time.

That sounds completely clueless. Embarassing to be a professional and say stuff like this
Mark Renshaw who has ridden the course and helped design the route has said that Ewan would have to be at his very best on this course to have any hope. He seemed to think the course suited Matthews much more and with the form Ewan has shown this season he wouldn't be at his very best. If it was a few times up Mt Pleasant fair enough but I think Ewan would get worn down in the second half of the race on this course.

Maybe not lose that much time, but maybe Remco getting close enough to see the car in that long stretch along the coastline. That maybe can happen.

pog has been prepping the WCs since he recovered from TDF. it wouldn't surprise me if he podiumed the ITT.

of course, i would personally love your scenario, but...

If it's a bunch sprint, I think 20-30 riders in the first group is about the right size. There were 30 riders left in the end of Bergen (including Moscon). If the attackers had been caught in Ponferrada, I think about 40 riders would have been in contact with the bunch after the last climb. They were 25 in Geelong.

It's difficult to say who would make the cut in that scenario, as being well prepared, in a good position and with teammates count for a lot. If Van Aert has only followed wheels until then, I think he would be the favourite in such a sprint.

NZ riders have to pay for their own airfares but most go home for the summer, so a return airfare b/w OZ and NZ is affordable - I'm unsure about the USA situation - The top end in the men's elite will be fine BUT the next level of riders will be depleted - There will no issues with the women's elite, while the under 23's and the juniors should attract strong fields - Unfortunately this crazy chase for UCI points will affect the men's field as trade teams will not release riders - The organizers who outlay big dollars to hold the championship must be very disappointed in the UCI - Finally there has been a big push for an under 23's women's championship - Having the race within the elite race is not ideal, however trade teams and especially National Federations have done themselves no favors by not selecting an under 23 rider - When Australia leaves behind Neve Bradbury then you have a problem.
It's only Spring in NZ so riders haven't returned yet. Racing in Europe hasn't finished. Our only pro team was racing a few days ago when Aaron Gate won in Luxembourg.

It's a long way from Luxembourg to Wollongong.
