Sure the others made tactical mistakes.

But the attack in the final km was masterclass from Van Vleuten.

She let go of the group to come with more speed far over to the right.

The others would have had to react immediately but even half a second of hesitation was too much and she was gone for the win.

Happy none of the first group won, they had a pretty clear moto draft going on, but it still totally changed group dynamics.

Genius to get dropped

Thats not what I said...

She wasnt strong on the hill and struggled during the race, but made it into the second group. She didnt have to do any work leading into the finish and went for it with a smart attack. Dropping 10-15 meters when the group caught the others and came with speed in an all out effort. That was a genius move.

The tactics of not contributing in a leading group is common in the women's peleton, moreso when it is a big race - This will continue to happen.

AVV did what AMP should have done at some point instead of leading the group out in the final K. She had to be one of the slowest there if not THE slowest.
AMP doesn't have that pursuit.
But yeah, she was a sure one to give it a go.

That attack was super strong. But the first group should never have let them come back.

Looks like a sprint tomorrow from a group of about 20 - attackers just not getting away this morning and too much road to bring them back. They brought them back this morning after the final climb, and in men’s race the final climb is two kms further out, so 8lm to reel them back in

Cecilie really not being her exuberant self in the post race interview. I don't think I have ever seen her so disappointed.

What? It isn't the same circuit?
