Sure.
Still, he managed to leapfrog ranks he wasn't expected to.
But considering all circumstances the results are really explicable.
None of the top TT guys was at his best today (aparat from Kung who imho went too hot at some point and could've won that) plus some (WvA, Roglic) were absent. Foss who's a solid TTst showed up in excellent form with super fresh legs and great knowledge of the course. And he won.

So I'd say a huge surprise, but not so much if you look closer at it.

Sounds like Foss spent a lot of time on the circuit beforehand. He said you had to attack the corners because it was such a stop start course with so many corners.

Yeah, and we mustn‘t forget the advantage that „plumpers“ like Pedersen in Harrogate or Foss today had: they store so many additional liters of water in their bodies and faces, so that they can attack courses with many corners (today) or slippery courses (Harrogate) with full speed, because they are protected by ten liters of fluid from hair to toe…

Just give Foss a few cups of Green Tea before next Giro, and he finishes on the final podium…

;)

A much more interesting TT than I thought it would be. Feel bad for Kung. He was so close. Maybe he dug a little to deep when overtaking Mollema. (for the speedskating fans: it reminded me of Bergsma on the 10k on the WC in 2017, only there Bergsma collapsed completely and the ultimate time difference was bigger). Evenepoel was happy with his power, that shows that Foss has done a superb ride! Congrats to him.

There is one thing I don't like, the missing contenders. I love time trialing and we could have had such a terrific field. Look who is missing:
WvA - Roglic - Vignegaard - Dennis - Asgreen - Dumoulin. Those would have been a mighty addition. If all in peak shape.... Would have loved it.

What do you guys think, did Jumbo kill the TTT specialty by creating such a superb team? No way the TdF will include a prober TTT now because the differences would be huge.

Well everyone knew Tobias Foss was the big favorite, and he came through!

I watch speed skating more than I care to admit and I completely forgot that 10km.

A more mainstream comparison would obviously be the 2019 40-15 moment at Wimbledon

You mean missing was the entire rest of the Jumbo team plus Asgreen?

Hey, these three look like the Columbian guy (former Movistar, Ag2R) who once won Paris-Nice, and mentioned something like this: „I did not know that body weight is important for successful cycling!“… :)

(He was called Bananito or so, but can‘t remember his true name… ;) )

I finally got out of bed. I didn't miss much. I've heard of Foss (as big a nobody as Wright). The hilarious year continues!

Wright will win the road race. You heard it here first.
There will be a sprint finish of 50 riders and Wright will beat Ewan for 8th place. Alaphilippe will attack 12 times on Mount Pleasant and take the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow. We will laugh and cry.
