Kung would have finished outside of the top 5
Together with Ganna outside of top 10, lol.

I look forward to seeing a video of that.
Not original footage but a re-enactment.

I don't want to take anything away from Foss' breakout performance, but:

Remco lost it in the corners. Recovering from the Vuelta, he wasn't able to do as much reconnaissance as the others. You could see he went a lot slower, and taking that into account: 9 seconds is almost nothing.

Also: Wout must be frustrated, it had to be in his absence to see Ganna having a lesser day.

Mixed feelings for Remco if you see the TT result in Algarve. Only 9seconds after the Vuelta should be seen as very good though. But these corners in the first lap, yikes

I get the irony, yet it seems it'd just stretch the same type of effort onto another lap.
...blowing up would take place later.

To me it doesn't look like it would affect even endurance.
Pretty fatiguing course right from the start.

Yess. I have the feeling that the general level of this TT surely wasn't a top one and a totally surprising winner reflects that.

Evenepoel... Foss? almost saying "who the f is foss?"
Apparently Remco never heared the name Foss in his communication, hence his surprised reaction.
He was satisfied with his power numbers, and doesn't want to hide behind lesser cornering. He's still quite confident for the road race.

Looking at Foss' racing calendar this season, since Giro he bascially did only Nat champs, Deutschland Tour and Canadian classics. Being super fresh compared to the others (e.g. 38 racing days vs Remco's 65) and prioritizng his training towards this goal imho played a significant role here.

Sure.
Still, he managed to leapfrog ranks he wasn't expected to.

Usually the Vuelta form carries over to the worlds.

Not to the time trial. To the road race, sure.

Can also add "when in the same timezone" as well.
NOrmally the WC are somewhere in europe, which drastically changes the recovery as well.

Foss was sublime today. (Hayter seemed his equal). I think giving the performance of Hayter, this parcour suited a bit the explosive types more than the roulleurs. (As Foss also indicated)
Stupid WVA imo, couldn't make a more suited parcour for him)

I hope Foss can display his champion jersey next year!?

I am sure that he will have his chance maybe not just at the Tour.
