I have a british passport and travelling by plane anywhere in Europe still requires passport control, Tenerife is no different.

I'm not challenging you, just saying that entering a Europan country without a passport is unusual. Are you are diplomat?

The Hog travels exclusively by private jet. His manservant Jogi handles all his drugs and the negotiations with the customs Freds

Doping aside, Tenerife is still a perfect place for altitude training, and altitude training is a perfectly legitimate thing. This thread is the equivalent of saying "he's a pro, therefore he dopes".

Not really. Tenerife has a bit more history than simply being a good place to train. F&F are not known for hanging out in the Sierra Nevada :D

Who said anything about travelling without a passport? I said passport control wave you through.

Andy1234 what's really going on with you?

Get on board. Stick with Hog. I'll show you the way.

Actually you said there was no passport control.
if you said passport control waved you through that would have made more sense.

Which one is it Mr Hog? What's really going on with you?

Ibiza is full of drugs so why would Tenerife be any different in difficulty of getting the required pharmaceuticals there. It is probably easier to get the PEDs to Tenerife than ecstasy to Ibiza.

Brad Wiggins' Coach Invents Training Hard in the Winter!: http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/wiggins-lauds-new-training-philosophy

umm...really? 'cause I see lots of guys getting fat in the winter and not training or in "really bad condition".

All that's left is some documentation about Brad's pedaling efficiency increasing and this should seal the deal!

The Tour should be interesting purely for ridiculousness of it. On one hand we have Wiggins, who looks to be juiced over the field to the same degree that Ricco was. On the other hand we have Evans and the all-stars BMC squad, a team assembled by the man who personally paid for Landis' doping program. It is going to be like two U.S. Postal teams going head to head.

I hope Menchov upsets the UCI and ASO's desires.

Well there is Andy Schreck.
As far as Wigans goes I am waiting to see how many times he pre-rode all the tour climbs before I make up my mind. He sure is starting to sound like Coyle is writing his PR statements though.

Lol. I was thinking of Ricco watching Wiggins a few hours ago.

Sky might just be more accurately the new Postal though complete with protection.

Because he's leading the Dauphine Libre by 34secs??

You are right. Ricco was a lot more credible. Halfway through his career he did not transform from spending his time on climbs fending off the broom wagon to being a genuine Tour contender. It is like a Claudio Chiapucci like rise.

SKY the new Postal??

Look, I am the first to admit I was amused a few years back when SKY announced their plans to win the TdF with a British Rider. HaHa chortle. But I may have to eat my laughs - SKY and Wiggins are doing all the right things. Many many many right things.

That said, lets wait until Wiggins wins ONE TdF in a row before we start making silly comparisions. Heck, maybe after 4 or 5 wins in a row you can interest me in a SKY vs POSTAL comparison.

Hats off to Brad and SKY so far this season though. I'm a fan for sure.

Yeah Claudio Chiapucci was a junior world champ, multiple senior world champ, and multiple Olympic champ before his rise. Oh wait.......

Sorry to tell you this, but no one gives a damn about the track. It is a dead niche of cycling. It is as relevant to the world of sport as rythmic gymastics or synchronized swimming.

Plenty good high altitude roads in winter. This is at ~2200m:

Plenty good reasons to go there, whatever time of year. It's never too warm, and never cold either.

Oh, and there is Columbus sailing by once in a while. Maybe he delivers the stuff.

Last time I was there they didn’t even have passport control! It’s also party central and plenty of disco biscuits to go around for all and at cut rates. With that sort of lax controls over the ability to cooks eggs on your head at a rave then there’s no issue with Dr. F getting in to do his work.

With the Olympics in London this year the British Press are ready to “believe” in these stories. I’m surprised at the Armstrong reference. Obviously in England they haven’t had the full run down on recent events. In saying all that the Press in London is relentless. They turn on their own and the slightest hint of controversy.

There generally is passport control, although intra-Spain flights might not be too strict on it (even though all flights, including island hopping flights, require going through customs).

I was once shown a photo of a man entering the lobby of a hotel in Tenerife with a cooler in hand, which probably contained some of that holistic stuff.

Might've been me, carrying my beer. It's warm in Tenerife, mind you. And it's nice to drink beer on the beach.

Just out of interest, where do the Tenerife haters (you heard it here first people) think a European based cycling team should go for early season training - somewhere with decent temperatures and roads, and is cheap to get to?

Maybe the Greek isles, but in February there really is no comparison in Europe. There's a reason summer flight and hotel tickets are dirt cheap in Tenerife, it's low season in summer. It's the winter season when the place is really attracting crowds, and not only cyclists.

Benidorm/Calpe in Costa Blanca.

Mountains are far lower there, good roads more so I think. Also lower temperatures.

In general, it won't be possible.

To all the people saying Tenerife is a place to hide. Well, it could be, but if it is, why not send a doping representative to it. The place is not exactly the size of Alaska, is it...

I'm not a big track fan, but plenty of people give a damn, including protour managers who sign riders based on their track results.
Watts on a track translate to watts on the road my friend.

Whilst I agree with you but go to 6-day event sometime. They're fun. Plenty of booze and doped up riders spinning about like crazy. Like a rave!

Olympic track agree is boring as hell.

Anyone else notice this irony in this selection of words?

"Wiggins has sprinkled his preparation for July with an approach to racing that seems to have been lifted straight from the “you might as well win” school of thought. His emphatic win in Bourg-en-Bresse means that he is in pole position to add overall victory at the Dauphiné to an already impressive 2012 haul."
