No, it's a fact that riders usually celebrate when defending the yellow jersey. I'm not sure how you can argue against that. Unless you think Wiggins won this stage, for example

On the other hand, Voeckler didnt win anything here.

.

While I agree that a stage race is a stage race (though he shouldnt have even won that since Valverde he actually won a stage), having said that its a bit unfair to have EE lose this list year after year simply because the Tour of the Basque Country is in April, whereas Greenedge will always be first because their race is in January.

Personally, I wouldn't count an overall (certainly in something like the TDU) as a 'win' per se.

Its not as though you get the chance to cross the line with your arms in the air ;)

It's better than a small ****ty stage win in a stage race.

The TDU win is valid, though I think Greenedge should be up for some kind of award for being so lame after all the hype.

Yeah, they celebrate, and no ones debating that a gc is actually won. As i said, for me - certainly in the context of this thread - I wouldn't view it as a win per se.

Thats just me. I know I won't win the argument.;)

Wiggins didn't even win a stage in Dauphine '11, what a pointless week eh, all that hard work and not even a win at the end of it.

Ridiculous argument.

Yeah, agreed.;) as I said, that's just how I view it, particularly with respect to a flat stage race like the TDU - in the context of this thread.

Some riders consider wearing the Maillot Juane for even one stage, whether they won the stage prior to being awarded the Maillot, a win, FFS get a grip.

It was the countback system that I didn't like at the TDU, should be how many stage wins do you have? if it's not decided how many seconds...etc. Valverde coming second as he came across the line futher back in the peloton in a sprint is ridiculous.

I don't need to get a grip of anything.

As I said. In. The. Context. Of. This. Thread. I. Personally. Wouldn't. Count. The GC. In. The. TDU. As. A. 'win'.

Indeed they do, so what?
Andy is not saying that winning on GC isn't considered a win, of course it is, but rather for this thread it shouldnt be considered part of the competiton, which I think is perfectly logical and of course it matters on how each person defines "victory" in this context and how they apply it. Gerran's win may have been a victory in GC but then EBH's win was also a victory in the points jersey..
Are you then trying to say we go according to CQ and thats that?

Thanks. Somebody understands what I was trying to say. ;)

Not easy trying to explain that a win isn't a win even though it is.:)

Agree with you. In a bunch finnish it makes no difference if you finnish 12th or 50th.As a stage winner who finnished ahead of Gerrans on the final stage, Valverde was the moral victor at least.

Exactly, look at the Astana team and no-one stands out as a "winner" (except Vino and no-one knows how he'll have recovered from the Tour last year).

Euskaltel are very much in the same boat - but they do have Sammy Sanchez, Anton, Astarloza and Nieve at least.

Yeah... Because Astarloza is such a proven winner after his ban.... Oh and when I think of Nieve the first thing that comes to mind is "prolific winner"!

Me thinks Astana can pull out a victory faster than Euskatel

I definitely agree

Yeh otherwise they would have been the first team to win when they won those australian crits right at the begining in december/january with Davis
Edit: Though they were anyway the first team to win
